Finally, Gitta Wombwell of Goose Creek sends a recipe from upstate New York "that is served in all the hot dog and hamburger places. This is great on hot dogs, hamburgers and steak sandwiches. I wish it were available in our local restaurants. Its always a hit at my house when I serve it to guests who have never had it. This is fairly spicy and can be changed to suit your tastes by adjusting peppers and chili powder." Brown ground beef. Add dry ingredients, mixing well. Add water and tomato sauce; simmer for 2-3 hours until desired consistency. Thanks also to Mary F. Collier of North Charleston, Traci Combs, Grace Mitchum of Cross, Brenda Gibbs of Yonges Island, Sandy Ransom of Summerville, Evelyn Lane of Charleston and Frankie Adkins of Charleston. The only changes I made to the recipe so it would look absolutely like authentic Upstate NY (Rochester area) chili meat sauce was after I sauted the ground burger I gave is a few whizzes in my Cuisinart so the burger was more fine. Also for my kids I only added 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes. (I just added more to my own. This was ALOT like the sauce they serve on the ol' Famous Garbage Plates! YUM YUM!
