Homemade Buttermilk Ingredients

4 1/2 teaspoons white vinegar or fresh lemon juice

1 cup milk

Instructions for Homemade Buttermilk

Place the vinegar in a glass-measuring cup, and add enough milk to make 1 cup total liquid. Stir to combine and let stand for 10 to 15 minutes (The mixture will begin to curdle).
Use as needed in a recipe, or cover and refrigerate until needed.

Buttermilk is nearly impossible to find here in Taichung, Taiwan. This substitution recipe is exactly what I needed.

I have been making this buttermilk substitution for a number of years, but with only 1 teaspoon vinegar or lemon juice to make one cup. I will certainly try this one so I may compare the two. The sub has always worked great for me in recipes.
