Oven Baked French Toast Ingredients
1 loaf French bread 8 oz.
Ground
cinnamon
optional
6
Eggs
Powdered sugar
1 1/2 Cups
Milk
1 pound
Strawberries
(3 Cups) stemmed and sliced
4 tbl. Granulated
sugar
divided
1/2 tsp.
Lemon
zest
1 tsp.
Vanilla
1 tsp.
Lemon
Juice
1/8 tsp
Salt
Instructions for Oven Baked French Toast
Spray 9 X 13 baking pan with non-stick cooking spray. Cut bread into 1 inch slices (10-16 slices); arrange closely in a single layer in prepared pan. In a medium bowl, beat eggs with whisk. Whisk in milk, 3 Tablespoons of the granulated sugar, vanilla, and salt. Pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate at least one hour or over night.
Preheat oven to 400 degree F. Sprinkle bread with cinnamon, if desired. Bake, uncovered, 30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Slice strawberries an place in a medium bowl. Add lemon zest, juice, and the remaining 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar. Mix lightly. Serve over warm French toast.

I made the night before and bread was still squishy and uncooked on bottom side after cooking. Maybe it was the bread I used? I had to turn the bread over and cook for a few more. Was not a big hit.. I might try again but cook right away.

Tried it this morning. Tasted great and was easy to make. Next time, I'll probably add cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg to the egg mixture, rather than sprinkling the cinnamon on top - we're cinnamon junkies.

If you are not a morning person, or you lack the time to cook in the morning, this recipe is for you. A make-ahead dish that can be prepared the night before and then baked in the oven for half an hour before breakfast. If you don''t like strawberries, it is just as good served with maple syrup.
