Potato Gratin Ingredients

1 large clove Garlic peeled and smashed1 pinch Cayenne
1 tablespoon Butter softened2 pound Potato peeled and sliced
2 1/2 cups Half-and-half cream 1 cup Gruyere cheese shredded
1 1/4 teaspoon Salt 1 cup Cheddar cheese shredded
1 pinch Nutmeg

Instructions for Potato Gratin

1. Adjust oven rack to center shelf and pre-heat to 350 degrees. Rub bottom and sides of shollow baking dish with Garlic. Mince remaining garlic and set aside. Once garlic in dish has dried, about 2 minutes, spread/smear dish with half of butter.

2. Bring half-and-half, salt, pepper, nutmeg, cayenne, potatoes and reserved galic to a boil in a medium sauce pan over medium-high heat, stiring ocationaly with wooded spoon (liquid will only parely come to top of potatoes). Reduce heat and simmer untill liquid thickens, about 2 minutes.

3. Pour potato micture into prepared dish; shale or use a fork to distrubute potatoes evenly. Gently press down potatoes until submerged in liquid; Dot with remaining butter.

4. Bake until top is golden brown (basting ocationaly during first 45 minutes).

5. after first 45 minutes sprinkle top evenly with Gruyere Cheese and then with Cheddar. Cook and aditional 30 minutes or until cheese forms a nice crust. Tolal cooking time 75 minutes.
