Ingredients

Preparation

Place chicken breasts into a skillet or dutch oven. Pour cola and ketchup over the chicken and bring to a boil. Cook, covered over medium heat until chicken is done (approximately one hour). Raise heat and cook uncovered until sauce thickens. This might take awhile, so keep a close eye on it.

Or dump everything into a crockpot and cook until done (about 3 hours or so).

Easy & fuss free. Add a dash of Toney's cajun seasoning & a few splashes of hot sauce....comes out great. I'll have to try with some BBQ next time. I saw a few other comments mention this.

I chose to slow-cook this dish and used regular cola instead of diet. I think that next time, I will add some onions and perhaps some potatoes to make a full meal. It was very tasty.

I belive that this dish will be overcocked. I would never cock chickenbreast more than 20-25 minutes

Well, it certainly is easy to make and clearly there are lots of people who like it. Possibly I did something wrong, although that is a stretch given how simple the recipe is. It tasted like chicken in ketchup to me. The cola didn't seem to change the ketchup flavor at all.

I seasoned the chicken and added 1/4 cup of Jack Daniels BBQ and 2 cloves minced garlic to the original recipe. Came out awesome!!

Ill love to try this

I was shocked how great this tasted but I did make some modifications:

I used 1/3 cup of ketchup, 1/4 a cup of honey BBQ sauce, and the ingredient that made the biggest difference, 1 teaspoon of srirachi sauce. It gives the sauce a nice kick to it, you can't taste it and I promise that those fearing spicy things will still enjoy it. Its available at most supermarkets and specialty groceries as well.

This is really quick and easy to fix. Our family loved it. Just remember to allow the sauce to thicken before serving. With a cast iron pot, it doesn''t take as long to make as the directions suggest. I substituted boneless pork chops for the chicken and it was great.

YUM! After the sauce became thick I shredded the chicken and mixed it with white rice....was great!

needed a little more cola as found the pan had boiled dry in half an hour! but delish none the less!

Easy to make, a little too much ketchup taste, but I think adding a little spice to it would make it much better

This made an interesting sweet-flavored chicken that we used for chicken salad after the first meal.

Very easy recipe! I didn't find it necessary to cook longer than an hour to thicken the sauce. I cooked it covered for 45 mins and vented the lid for the last 15 mins. Also, I used half ketchup and half bbq sauce and diet Dr. Pepper instead. Delish!

I cooked this in my electric wok as I did not have a pan with a lid that was large enough. I used half ketchup and half bbq sauce. I also used Cherry Dr. Pepper for the cola. The sauce did thicken but not as much as I would have liked so I served it over a bed of rice to help soak up the sauce. Quick and Simple.. I'll make this again.

i used part ketchup part hickory bbq sauce abut 1 1/2 cup total and added 1 and a half cans of cola a little hickory liquid smoke, cajun seasoning minced onion 4-5 drops mongolian fire oil and 4 sliced jalapenos and added 4 frozen chicken breasts that are the thin ones in the bag. At the end thickened the sauce with flour.

Turned out amazing, will be one we make often!!

This is really quick and easy to fix, but it tasted like chicken doused in ketchup - I don't see what the cola did for the recipe. We scraped as much of the 'sauce' off as possible before we ate it.

PhxdamePhxdame :  :  50w 4d ago

it was ok in the crock pot, will have to try again in the oven.

This recipe looked easy and doable at a time just before grocery shopping, when the kitchen was almost empty. The taste wasn't bad but nothing great. I just threw it in, boiled, set to medium covered for 30min, then back to med-high uncovered until most of the water boiled off and voila.

My husband and I liked this alot. Very tender. I never had the juice to thicken, but didn't matter. I would most compare this to BBQ chicken. My kids didn't care for it but they don't like BBQ much either. My husband and I will have this again. It was very very easy to make.

It was really different and very tasty. i served it with farmer market fresh baby carrots.

This was very good, and easy! I used lime diet coke. It does take quite a while to cook down, even after removing a goodly amount of liquid before reducing.

XenaMerleXenaMerle :  :  1y 5w 3d ago

The sauce did not really thicken so I added some flour, still pretty saucy. Flavor, however was good. I used a crockpot but had to cook it much longer than 3 hrs. I turned up the crock pot to get it boiling and took off the lid to try to thicken sauce, still had a lot of sauce.

I had to pick up my daughter and her four children 16 - 5 yrs old. Found the recipe, was skeptical but said, what the heck no effort and it it doesnt work out, KFC could substitute.

My grandaughter helped and gave a strange look but when all was said and done, everyone loved it, even me. It's a keeper for me and could see making it for an outdoor party or something like that.

Awesome! How can two tomato sauce and cola become lovers? The two become another entity. BRILLIANT ECTO-SCIENCE!

little_fieldmouselittle_fieldmouse :  :  1y 32w 1d ago

We loved it. I made it for the second time tonight and all I had was a diet cherry cola...it was just as wonderful as with regular cola, but with a twist. I served it with steamed broccoli and carrots in a garlic and herb sauce and jasmine rice.

KnotDocKnotDoc :  :  1y 37w 5d ago

very yummy! The smell as it was cooking was enough to make my mouth water...and the rest of the family loved it as well. Fantastic!!

dhilldhill :  :  1y 39w ago

As a graduate student I like to leave a meal ready for my family when I go to class. So for this I used the crock pot method, and I also added most of a red onion, sliced and 5 cloves of garlic, smashed, I also used regular Coke. I used about 1/4 c of the red onion on the edemame salad. My husband served my children a couple of hours before I got home and turned off the crock pot. They said it was ok. By the time I got home, the chicken was so tender, I couldn't get it out of the pot! So I shredded it and made it into BBQ chicken sandwiches. It was good. The sauce didn't thicken, but I told my husband if he had left the lid off the crock pot, it would have thickened a little. I think you could use this with pork and it would be good too.

This was a tasty recipe and quick to make. It is inexpensive and the cola added a unique taste to the chicken. My teenage sons loved it. Would definitely make this again.

Very flavorful and tender. Who knew it could be so simple. I had my 14 year old niece make it when she visited and it introduced her to the joy of cooking. Definately give it a try.

sherissheris : : 1:00 total time : 0:15 active time :  2y 3w 6d ago

My wife made this tonight, substituting Diet Dr. Pepper and had to use about 1/4 cup of BBQ sauce since we ran out of ketchup. The texture of the chicken was tender and it had a great flavor.

Next time, I am going to pound the breasts to about 1/2 inch thickness and grill them, using this sauce as a glaze.

I wish the previous poster had told us what exactly he/she didn't like about this recipe, as well as making suggestions for improvement. It helps nobody when someone (who themselves have never posted so much as one recipe) posts what looks to be a rude comment without telling why they feel the way they do. I certainly respect the opinion of sunnyd36, who posted before Nunya_Binnez, as they told us what they didn't care for. Differences of opinion are what make the world go round (and make it interesting too).

Obviously, 100 members don't agree with Nunya_Binnez's assessment.

This recipe is easy to fix, and with only three ingredients (plus some others suggested by the membership), it's certainly economical.

:)

I have come across similar recipes to this on many occasions reading cookbooks and the net and have always passed it up because it just doesn't sound right if you know what i mean. Tonight I was really tired and my husband was really hungry so I thought I'd try this because it looked easy and all the good comments. My Husband said it was OK which is good from him since he is a chef. I didn't care for it so much. it was rather tart. I probably won't make again. I may however pass it on to my 18 yo daughter who lives on her own. I think this would be a fantastic recipe for new cooks.

sunnyd36sunnyd36 :  :  2y 8w 5d ago

Everybody enjoyed it. It's like a twist on chicken baked in bbq sauce which we love.

nterlichnterlich :  :  2y 11w 6d ago

This one surprised me. It was better than I expected. I did it in the crock pot. When cooking for two you still have to make the full sauce or it will dry up.

I added dried chopped onions, garlic, and parsley to this recipe and cooked it on the stove top. Yummy!

I used the crock pot method and wasn't too pleased with the results, but it was very tasty. Next time I make this, I'll be doing it on the stove.

We used 5 very thin sliced skinless breasts that had been thawed in the microwave. The sauce began to boil almost immediately and the chicken was fully cooked in 10 minutes. We used a teflon pan so the edges didn't get crispy like in the picture, but the flavor was excellent and the chicken melt-in-your-mouth. Serve with rice and it tastes kind of like sesame chicken without the sesame and soy sauce. All in all, very yummy and quicker if you use thin sliced breasts.

I made it for the kids on a day I knew my husband would not be home, cause I thought he would hate this. Not only did the kidlets love it, but so did I... I think I would add in the garlic and onions as suggested by another chef next time, but yeah, this is worth it!

cleverktcleverkt :  :  2y 36w 2d ago

WOW - I was amazed at how tasty and easy this was. I added a chopped onion, 3 minced garlic cloves, and some black pepper. Husband thought it a bit sweet, so next time I'll try a bit less ketchup, some spice - dijon mustard, red pepper flakes, worchestershire sauce...possibilities are endless. Served it w/brown rice and kimchi- really surprising AND CHEAP!!

I put this in a baking dish and put it in a 350 degree oven for 50 mins.

Me again I also used Diet Dr. Pepper. I waited untill my husband ate it all and said that was so good before I told him it was diet pop. He said no way.I will be making this again and again!!!! Cooked it in 1/2 hour. Of corse the longer it cooks the more tender. Very easy and easy clean up!!!!

I was pretty unsure of this one, but decided to have a go at it, didn't mention what was in it so the kids would at least try it lol It was amazing!! We reserved some of the sauce for dipping and they ended up pouring some on their mashed potatoe side dish! All 5 of us cleaned our plates and will deffinately be making this again and again! Thank you for sharing such an affordable very tasty recipe!
