I didn't have time to give the sauce a full 8 - 10 hours in the crock pot so I simmered it for a couple of hours on the stove and then let it finish up in the crock pot. I made a double batch on my first attempt and it came out just fine.

A very easy, stand-alone recipe. It's also a great base recipe, ripe for customization as shown by the comments! I have to admit I generally make a sauce based on a Mario Battali recipe, which is much more time consuming and costly. The Battali recipe creates a great sauce, but I often don't have the time (hours) to tend to it. This sauce is flavorful, adaptable, and the newest addition to my Big Oven collection.

By the way, in response to the last post, looks to me like Webtexan added the recipe and RKG1 added the photo.

So who submitted this recipe? RKG1 or webtexan?

Very good, easy, and wonderful aroma! I wanted to make more of a marinara sauce, so I left out the meat and onions and added 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese and about a half a cup of water to thin it a little. Next time I will try it with the Italian sausage and onions.

This was a very nice sauce. Spaghetti sauce is always best when it cooks forever, like this. I substituted premade meatballs instead of the meat. I also added some red pepper instead of hot sauce. Oh yes, a minced shallot too.

This recipe is terrific! Next time I might try adding 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper just to spice it up a bite more.

Tried this one tonight with a few changes to suit what I had and my daughter in law who can't eat spicy foods loved it.

Instead of ground beef, I used pulled deer meat and Italian sausage. Mince the garlic, dice the onion and lightly sautéd both in olive oil adding a pinch of Emeril's Original Essence. I like fresh mushrooms so added the same in the sauté. Add the sauté to the rest of the ingredients, including a pinch or so of pepper. Warm on "High" then reduce the slow cooker to the lowest setting. Stir occasionally.

Hint: If possible, allow to refridgerate over night and return to the slow cooker to heat the following day.

YUM!!! Better than Mom's! Made lasagna with it and it was a major hit. Mushrooms were a nice addition. One warning: if you have a big crockpot, double the recipe or the sauce may burn. Mine runs hot as it is, but after doubling the recipe, it came out great. No need to tinker much with this. I'm going to try some bell pepper next time just for some variety, but trust me, it doesn't need a thing!
