Chocolate Orange Cake Ingredients
1 1/2 cup
all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon
salt
1 1/4 cup granulated
sugar
1/2 cup
butter
1/2 cup
cocoa
powder sifted
2
eggs
large
1 teaspoon
baking powder
1 teaspoon
orange
extract
1 teaspoon
baking soda
1 cup hot water
Instructions for Chocolate Orange Cake
Measure all 10 ingredients into large bowl in order given. Beat on low until moistened. Beat on medium for about 1 minute, scraping down sides of bowl, until smooth. Turn into greased 9x9 inch square pan. Bake in 350 F. oven for about 35 minutes until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan for 5 minutes before turning out onto wire rack to cool. Cuts into 16 pieces.

It was strange to mix this backwards. Usually you mix sugar and butter then eggs and so on. I turned out pretty well.

Adapted from the Company''''s Coming "The Rookie Cook" cookbook (I changed the flavor). 1 double recipe makes 3 - 4 8 inch round layers. (Or 3 8 inch layers and 6 regular sized cupcakes.) Use orange extract in the icing instead of vanilla too. It really brings out the orange flavor. Active time does not include decorating time - which took about 1 hour including to make icing. I made this cake for my step-daughter''s birthday and EVERYONE loved it. They all said how moist it was. If you are looking for an easy, cheap, but moist and delicious cake this is it. [I posted this recipe.]
