so good. i don't like really sweet cookies. i was out of raisins at the time and replaced it with craisins. i also melted the butter first. made the oatmeal nice and soft.

I made these for Valentine's Day 2009 and handed them out to various people. Every single one of them told me that they were literally the best Oatmeal Raisin Cookies they'd ever taste (better than their moms!). I personally don't like O.R. cookies too much, but I ate a considerable amount of these. Excellent!!

I liked this recipe a lot! I accidentally used baking powder instead of soda and it still worked great. That might have been why I needed to bake it longer, though (???). I also did not have nutmeg so I did a heaping 1/8th tsp each of allspice and cloves (the only other spices I had on hand). Also heaped the tsp of cinnamon and pinched a little salt off the top (i never go all-out on the full salt requirement). My husband loved these and asked me to make them again since we went through the first batch in 2 days!

Is the difference between those who think this is a perfect oatmeal cookie and those who think it is horrible determined by the choice of quick-cook or old fashiond oatmeal? I hesitate to try this recipe without knowing why people are having such opposite results with it.

WOW LOVE this cookie, it's just like I remember as a kid, and my son who's one and a half loves this cookie too!

I am not fond of oatmeal raisin cookies but these were chewy and good! I found myself going back for more after I tested the first one. Kid and husband loved them.

I just made these cookies for my 5 year old. I had to use Smart Balance buttery spread (all I had) -- they are so yummy! Ours came out chewy yet almost cake-y. Very good spicy flavor! Will definitely make again!

I have made this recipe (unfortunately) twice. It is the worst oatmeal cookie I have ever tasted. They do not rise whatsoever and are not sweet enough. This recipe might be better if butter was decreased & sugar increased.

I used craisins, cherry flavour. yummy

This oatmeal recipe is one of the few that I have had success with. Definitely will make it again. Easy to prepare and tastes great!

Shelly59Shelly59 :  :  1y 18w 4d ago

what a disappoinment! wouldn't make these again. after the second cup of oats the mixture was a almost a rock, i read the other posts/comments at this point to see if anyone else has had this problem, i too added another egg also a drop of milk seemed better. but i have found a better recipe since.

For oatmeal raisin not being my favorite type of cookie, this was the best I've ever tasted! My family

They tasted veyr much like DZ Akins Oatmeal cookies which are my favorite cookies in the world. I didn't have nutmeg so I used a little more cinnamon and they were fantastic.

Simply awesome. Great snack to nibble. Waiting for my son to return from Singapore to taste these. thanks for the recipe. I also added 1/2 cup corn flakes to get the crisp.

This recipe was amazing!!! I usually don't care for oatmeal raisin cookies, but I had a special request from a soldier for a care package and these are so delicious I'm having trouble saving any to send! These cookies are sweet and chewy and full of yummy happiness and very, very easy to make :)

One small note: the cookies don't expand much when they cook, so you should make the chunks of dough the size you wish your cookies to be. Enjoy!

I thought this recipe was very good. I too just make them into balls without flattening them..they flatten a bit on their own. The kids love them!!

I enjoyed the recip. I think I made mistake so will know after I remake it again. Even witht he mistake I made the cookies were ok.

Wished I had read sylan's comment before I tried these. Was exactly as sylan described (extremely dry) even though I followed the recipe exactly. I knew something was wrong when I was adding the second cup of oatmeal because it was getting very dry and hard to stir, and I still had to add another cup! After seeing that the first batch did not flatten on their own, I flattened the rest before baking (as well as added an egg). Only good point is that I could space them close together because they didn't expand. I love lots of oatmeal in my cookies but this amount ruined the recipe. There IS a great Oatmeal Raisin Cookies recipe that I love and uses half the flour and oatmeal and less fattening butter. I found it at

www.homemadecookiesandmore.com/oatmealraisincookies.htm (I have nothing associated with this website except I found it while looking for a recipe).

MondoCookMondoCook :  :  2y 1w 4d ago

Not sure what the previous reviewer did wrong here, but when I made these cookies precisely as the recipe describes, they were perfect. Great flavor and just the right amount of "chewy".

stevemurstevemur :  :  2y 1w 4d ago

These cookies turned out horrible! After stirring all the ingredients in the bowl it turned out very very dry. I baked a dozen anyway and they didnt flatten out like a cookie at all. I added an extra egg but that didnt seem to help.

Does anyone have a good oatmeal rasin cookies reciepe?

8 minutes 30 seconds for perfectly chewy cookies. I have finished my quest for the perfect oatmeal raisin cookie. Tx.

JanickJanick :  :  2y 2w 5d ago

I made these cookies (along with other kinds) for some co-workers for Christmas. One of them brought the cookies to a Christmas party and he said there were 2 chefs there and they both raved about my oatmeal raisin cookies! The recipe was very easy to follow. I'm going to be making more in a couple weeks for another co-worker who asked that I make her some for her birthday.

heather80heather80 :  :  2y 4w 3d ago

These were very easy to make and VERY good! My family prefers them a little sweeter, so on the second batch I added two TBS wildflower honey and that added just the right touch. I brought these to work and got raves on them.

JulieS9164JulieS9164 :  :  2y 4w 6d ago

My cookies were very flat. Chewy and good, but crumbled as I took them off the baking sheet. I added 1/2 cup more flour before making the rest and they came out fine. I am thinking Missouri just maybe high altitude? That is all I can guess. Very good flavor though, I will make again.

These cookies are AWESOME. I don't like raisin cookies but my husband does. I don't like soft cookies but my husband does. I googled for a oatmeal raisin cooking and came accross the bigoven site. Made these and not only does my husband love these cookies, (He is a chef and is very picky) they made me a convert to raisin soft cookies.

My 4 year old, a connoisseur of the entire Oatmeal Raisin Food Group, says "Thumbs Up. Five Stars". I found baking for exactly 10 minutes to be the right timing for perfectly chewy cookies. Quick and delicious; surprisingly, we also had all the ingredients we needed to make them on a rainy day. (My son now says "Can I have another cookie?" [Me: No.] "Well, then, after dinner?" [Me: Sure.])

These really are the best oatmeal Raisin Cookies ever! They were gone in a flash. I used the old fashioned oats but think the quick oats would give a lighter texture (the chewy ones were a little too chewy).

Bravo! I've searched so long for the perfect oatmeal raisin cookie recipe, and this is definitely my favorite so far. Don't worry if the dough is sticky. I tested this several ways and I found I got the best cookies by rolling the dough into balls, NOT flattening them but just placing on the cookie sheet, and baking 8.5 minutes.
