BBQ Meatballs

I made this on 18-Dec-05. Michelle was absolutely in awe of the sauce. She also confirmed that the meatballs need to be very small... Mike...

Ingredients

MEATBALLS

BBQ SAUCE

Instructions

Meatballs:

In a large bowl combine beef, egg, bread crumbs, onion, milk, garlic, salt, pepper & mustard. Mix well using hands. Shape into very tiny meatballs. Heat oil in large skillet, and brown meatballs on several sides. Remove from skillet and place on a large platter or bowl.

BBQ Sauce:

In a small bowl combine sauce ingredients. Mix well. Pour into a large saucepan. Simmer for 15 minutes to blend flavors.

Add meatballs to the sauce and stir gently. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer until meatballs are hot all the way through.

Serve in a corningware dish, or a crockpot if it's for a potluck.

This was a big hit at our house. It's a keeper. I did add more garlic to the meatballs and added two cloves to the sauce also.

Everyone loved it, I cheated and used frozen meatballs and it cut the time in half and it was still excellent.

The meatballs were very tender and tasty. The cider vinegar has a strong odor, but you cannot really taste it. I made the meat balls between 3/4" and 1" in diameter. I cooked them on two sides then added the sauce and simmered about 15 minutes. Very nice. I didn't track the time, but about an hour sounds right.

I liked this recipe, but would personally make some changes next time including the fact that I thought I was making the meatballs small enough but soon realized that they weren't when I got them on the skillet. Also, I would probably boil the meatballs instead of browning them and my taste tester (my fiance) prefers things a little more tart so I would us a little less brown sugar. All in all it was a VERY good and easy recipe.

The sauce is a good and tangy. I think I might try baking the meatball to cut down on the fat. I got 6 dozen meatballs. Plenty for my family of eight!

I just finished making this, and it was really bad. My family could not eat it. There was too much ground mustard in the sauce and too much cidar vinegar. Plus, the meatballs did not need MORE mustard in them. We threw the whole thing away! What a HUGE waste of time and money. I'll never make this again.
