Amy's Baked Apple Pandowdy Ingredients

4 -6 medium firm tart apples (McIntosh work well) cup white sugar
2 -3 slices white bread cubed cup chopped walnuts
1 tablespoons butter or margarine cut into small pieces acorn squash cup raisins
1 cup of water or sweet cider teaspoon ground nutmeg
cup packed brown sugar teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions for Amy's Baked Apple Pandowdy

Preheat oven to 350.
Core apples, stopping inch from the bottom. Set the apples in a shallow 1-1 quart baking dish.
Combine brown sugar, white sugar, walnuts, raisins, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cubed bread.
Spoon mixture into the apples and scatter any that is left over into the pan. Dot the top of the apples with butter pieces.
Pour water or cider into pan.
Cover the pan tightly with a lid or aluminum foil. Bake the apples for 30 minutes. Uncover and baste with the syrup in the bottom of the pan. Bake uncovered for another 10 minutes. Place apples on plates and spoon syrup over apples. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
