100% would make this recipe for Dutch Sugar Cookies - roll out again.

These are the smoothest, most delicious cookies. And, they're easy to roll and cut, as they don't stick like many others. The difference is that they're made with powdered sugar rather than confectioner's sugar. Perfect for Christmas, kid's birthday parties, etc.

Dutch Sugar Cookies - roll out Ingredients

1 1/2 cups Powdered sugar 2 1/2 cups Flour
1 cup Unsalted butter room temperature1 teaspoon Baking powder
1 large Egg 1/2 teaspoon Salt
2 teaspoons Vanilla extract

Instructions for Dutch Sugar Cookies - roll out

Using electric mixer, beat sugar and butter in large bowl until light.

Beat in egg and vanilla.

Add flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix to combine.

Divide dough in half. Gather each piece into ball and flatten into disks. Wrap in plastic and chill 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 325.

Roll out 1 dough disk on floured work surface to 1/8 in. thickness. Using assorted cookie cutters, cut out cookies.

Transfer cookies to ungreased baking sheets, spacing 1 in. apart.

Bake cookies until pale golden, about 13 minutes.

Transfer cookies to rack; cool.

Repeat with remaining dough disk.

Ice and decorate to your taste.

Note: I like a very simple icing made of water, powdered sugar, lemon juice, and food coloring. Just mix to the right consistency and taste.

Nice simple cookie. I made these for a Valentine's party for my daughter's school. We frosted and added sprinkles to them. They're best frosted because they're plain, but not plain in a bad sense. My five-year-old had no problem working with the dough and thoroughly enjoyed helping with every step along with way. I put in Almond instead of vanilla and then made pink frosting flavored with Cherry extract. I didn't have time to let the margarine come to room temp, so I microwaved it for 30 seconds on power level 2 (out of 10). The bake time for us was more like 15 minutes than the suggested 13. I didn't share my other times, because I had a "helper" and the project seemed to take up the entire morning ;-).

I added about 1/4tsp almond extract as well. My kids loved rollingit, its a very soft dough and easy for little hands to roll and cut.

It seems like most of my memories from being a little girl are centered around the kitchen table during holidays: I remember colouring Easter eggs, I remember carving pumpkins, and I remember my mom bringing out the cookie cutters and decorating bits and bobs. (Which doesn't explain why Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday, but...). So I've made this recipe up twice, let the little ones help me out and we are all impressed! It is going on my Christmas cookie staple list! Thanks for posting it!
