A wonderful middle-easter-type spicy meatloaf, thinly sliced and served wrapped in a soft pita with vegetables and donair sauce.

Donairs Ingredients

3 pounds Hamburger lean 3 teaspoons Paprika
3/4 cups Breadcrumbs 2 teaspoons Onion powder
2 teaspoons Pepper 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
1 teaspoon Cayenne 1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 1/2 teaspoons Oregano

Instructions for Donairs

Mix hamburger with breadcrumbs and spices. Knead for 20 minutes. Form into meatloaf shape. Cook for 2 1/2 hours at 300F. Cool and slice thinly.

Serve on pita bread which has been moistened with water and fried to soften. Top with Donair sauce, shredded lettuce, chopped onions and tomatoes.

Donairs have been around the Maritime Provinces, Canada for at least 25 years. They are middle eastern in descent. Greeks, turks and lebanese all lay claim to this tasty treat, which has become very popular in Eastern Canada. Somewhat similar to the greek gyros. [I posted this recipe.]
