Authentic Italian Spaghetti Sauce

"This sauce came from a good friend's Italian Mother-in-law. It is easy, and by far the best homemade sauce I know of. Great for both Spaghetti and Lasagna. Pssst...the secret is the sugar!"

Wow! I could hardly keep my family from eating it all in one sitting. This was delicious, on top of being simple to make. I followed the suggestions about cutting the sugar in half, which worked out perfectly. After making this, I can never go back to jarred sauce again.

This was a delicious, sweet and low acid sauce...the whole family loved it!

Absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! Easy to prep and cooks within an hour. Definitely going to make it again and add some hot Italian ground sausage, mushrooms, celery, and cut back to 1 TBLSP of sugar as it is a little sweet. By far the best Spaghetti sauce I've ever had in my life. Can easily serve a family of 5. Thanks for the recipe whomever =)

I will NEVER buy jarred sauce again! The "italian" guy that commented on this recipe saying it's not authentic has a screw loose...it's AMAZING!

My wife made this sunday 7/12/09 and served on our spaghetti. Its was vey good, but a little too sweet. I think I would have put about half the amount of sugar that it calls for on the recipe. Other than that is is great sauce. Most other can sauces upset my stomach, but this recipe didn't

Absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much. I rated it 5 stars, though I did tweak it a tad to our liking. I used only one onion, added a red pepper, didn't bother with parsely, as it didn't say to add in the pot, so I figured it was a decorative ingredient, and added meatballs.

This recipe is WONDERFUL!!! My husband and I have butted heads about spaghetti. He likes very thick, pastey textures and I do not. I made this and he enjoyed it. The only change I will make is I will drain some of the juice off of one can of tomatoes. I will also use half beef and half sweet italian sausage. It was extremely easy and has a wonderful flavor!!! I used my immersion hand blender to blend the tomatoes, so I didn't have to dirty my counter-top blender. I've actaully been eating the left overs. The recipe makes a lot, it fills my 8 quart pot. I will probably cut it in half next time, too.

No so

Italians would not use mince before and after the WII simply because beef wasn't widely available.

Definetly an USA dish from the Italian community there may be but not Kosher italian.

Italians source many of today's Italian recipes from USA, Argentina and Brazil where there are huge Italian communities for example Argentina boasts to have more than 50% Italian descent so naturally the food would have some two way influence and the same applies for Italians in NYC.

I am sorry I know one or two things about Italian cooking and Italian culture.

Okay so I decided to try this recipe with trepidation. My children are VERY picky about what they eat. They HATE pre-made spaghetti sauce, so I thought I'd try this one. Whoever this recipe belongs to, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I finally have something that my children will eat and have seconds. They LOVED this recipe, and I'm so happy they do. Did I forget to say thank you?

My kids said that it was better than any jarred stuff they've ever had and can I please stop buying that and make this instead?

I used diced tomatoes instead of stewed tomatoes as that is what I had in the cupboard.

This was an unbelievable recipe. Very easy to make and quite tasty. Added a few sprinkles of chili peppers which finished it off perfect. I would highly recommend this dish.

This is quite a large recipe. I had to blend the tomatoes two seperate times then combine them. I browned the meat first then added the vegetables and I added about 1/4 cup of a cabernet wine, which I really like how it adds flavor to the vegetables and the rest of the mix. This was a great recipe. My family loved it!

I found this recipe on the internet a long time ago, but the originator of the recipe is unknown. It is presented here with his own comments. This is better than any spaghetti sauce I have EVER tried!
