Low Carb Caipirinha

This fresh, exotic cocktail is becoming as hot among international crowds as it is on Copacabana Beach. The traditional caipirinha blends Cachaca, sugar cane, lime juice and ice. This version is sugar free and diabetic friendly.

Ingredients

  • 1 large lime - quartered
  • 1/2 cup Ice - crushed
  • 2 ounces Chachaca - or light rum
  • 2 ounces Diet Lemon-Lime soda - 7-up or Sprite

Preparation

Wash the lime gently under water and dry. Cut the limes, muddle gently in a non-breakable glass to crush the fruit but not release too much of the oils from the skin. Add ice and shake vigorously. Pour in serving glass and fill with lemon-lime soda. Garnish with lime slice and serve.

Caipirinha is pronounced 'KIE-PUR-REEN-YAH'

The traditional Caipirinha is a Brazilian cocktail made with Cachaca, sugar, and crushed limes, served over ice. It is always muddled (crushed with a masher or the blunt end of a wooden spoon). Make sure to muddle in a shaker or a sturdy, non-breakable glass. You can also try replacing lime with about 1/2 cup of fresh tangerine, star fruit, passion fruit, peach, pear, pineapple, plum, orange, mango, grape, guava, figs, etc.

This may not be a bad drink, but is absolutely NOT caipirinha. You can call it anything you want, but please don't call it caipirinha.

This is actually an assassination of caipirinha.

The REAL caipirinha only have 4 ingredients:

Cachaca, sugar, lime juice and ice.

If you use anything else, call it something else.

The only other version of caipirinha is when you substitute cachaca for vodka and call it CAIPIVODKA wich is acceptable.

By the way, cachaca is NOT diabetic friendly,

neither is vodka.
