Southwestern Turkey Burgers Ingredients

1 1/4 lbs. Lean Ground Turkey 1 tblspoon Chili Powder
1 can (12 oz) Reduced Sodium Black Beans rinsed and drained dash Salt optional
1 can (4 oz) Diced Green Chiles do not drain dash Pepper
1 medium Onion diced1 tspoon Olive oil rub grill
1 tblspoon Cumin ground

Instructions for Southwestern Turkey Burgers

Preheat Grill.

In large bowl mash rinsed and drained black beans. Add turkey, diced green chiles, onion, cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper to the balck beans. Use hands to mix ingredients together. Do not over work the meat, mix only until even mixture of ingredients. Divide meat into 6 patties, shape.

Adjust grill to medium heat. If grill cooks hot, use medium low. Wipe grill rack with oil and put burgers on to grill. Grill 4-7 minutes on each side, depending on how thick you made your burgers. Turn once. Use meat thermometer if in doubt as to doneness. Juices will run clear.

My husband liked these, but eveyone else didn't. We thought they were dry and not very flavorful.

My family also likes to add pepper jack cheese to their burgers. Salsa would also be a great topping for these burgers. We do not eat many bread products in our house, so we forgo the bun. Instead we serve these burgers with a southwestern chopped green salad, with: bell pepper, green onion, corn, tomato, lettuce and baby spinach. Choice of dressing up to you, but we use a lite salsa ranch. [I posted this recipe.]
