Hummingbird Food

This natural concoction is sure to bring dozens of hummingbirds to your house to dine at your hummingbird feeders.

Servings: 16 Servings

Ingredients

  • 1 gallon water
  • 4 cups granulated sugar

Preparation

Bring water to rolling boil in a dutch oven. When it reaches a rolling boil add sugar and stir. Boil an additional five minutes stirring frequently. Remove from heat. Cool in refrigerator until cold. Place in hummingbird feeder. Change out every three or four days in to keep it from souring. You'll have the happiest humingbirds on the block!

If you'd like to photograph these little jewels, stick a flower into one of the holes in the feeder. Block the other holes with a bit of tape. Add a spoonful or two of the nectar to the center of the flower, and line up your shot. Once the bird arrives and starts to feed, all you'll have to do is keep clicking that shutter.
