"Soda Jerk" beans Ingredients

2 cups of 1/2-inch cubed, cooked ham 1 large green bell pepper seeded and chopped
1 can of diced tomatoes drained 1/2 cup of dark brown sugar packed
1 can of pork and beans rinsed and drained 1/2 cup of cola-flavored soda
1 can of black beans rinsed and drained 1/2 cup of lemon-lime flavored soda
1 can of butter beans rinsed and drained 2 teaspoons of curry powder
1 ounce ocan of pinto beans rinsed and drained 1/2 teaspoon of dried savory
1 large onion chopped 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
1 large red bell pepper seeded and chopped 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

Instructions for "Soda Jerk" beans

Place all ingredients in a heavy large pot. bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. reduce the heat to medium and simmer until the juices thicken, stirring gently and frequently to prevent burning. (20-30 minutes, usually.) Season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve

Some people find that using only 1/4 cup of dark brown sugar provides enough sweetness. Also, some prefer to to use to use pork and beans without rinsing and draining them. This recipe has been a big hit whenever I have served them. All of the canned items are 15 ounces. [I posted this recipe.]
