Whoopie Pies From Angelett

This is a recipe that has been in our family for years and years. Our mom used to make these for us when we were kids. The filling is more like a devil dog filling not a frosting. Very Yummy! I use this same filling on angel food cake too!

Ingredients

Preparation

Cakes: Cream sugar and shortening, add eggs. Mix dry ingredients in a separate bowl, then in another small bowl mix milk and vanilla. Alternate the dry and wet ingredients into the creamed mixture. Our Mom always lined the cookie sheets with wax paper so I still do that. It is not necessary but it does prevent the bottoms from getting too brown. Drop by heaping tablespoons onto cookie sheet and Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes, cool on racks.

Filling: In a small sauce pan add milk and flour. Cook on low heat stirring constantly until it becomes like a thick paste. In mixing bowl beat sugar, shortening and butter until creamy, add Vanilla. Add warm paste to the mixing bowl and beat on high speed for 5 minutes or until the sugar is dissolved and nice and fluffy. Put filling between 2 cakes and enjoy! :)
