Slice the Smoked Sausage lengthwise and then slice into thin half moons. Brown sausage, ground beef and onions till onions are carmelized and meat is cooked through. Drain grease, if needed. Add beef stock, tomatoes, carrots, water and spices. Stir thoroughly. Cover and cook over medium/low heat for about 45 minutes. During last 5 minutes of cooking time, add the rice...OR during the last 10 minutes cooking time, add the macaroni. I like it both ways, depends on what mood I'm in.
