Cook the penne al dente, drain, set aside
Meanwhile, cut the onions in fine slices and fry in the butter until golden.
Heat the cream with 1/3 of the cheese until melted, stirring constantly.
Combine the pasta with another 1/3 of the cheese
Season with salt and pepper and fill a pan or an oven-proof form.
Pour the cheese-sauce over the pasta, cover with the rest of the cheese and
the onions.
Cook or bake covered until the cheese has melted.
