Heat the oil in a large skillet. If using precooked sausages, brown them a little. If using uncooked sausage cook thoroughly and be sure to get them brown. Remove stems from kale and coarsely chop it. Add kale to skillet and heat just to wilt.
Place the broth and refried beans in the slow cooker and stir to combine. Add the sausage and greens; stir to combine. Cover and cook on High for 2-1/2 to 3 hours.
Add salt to taste. Ladle into serving bowls and serve hot with sour cream, salsa, and lime wedges.
