Instructions for The Colonels Red Bowtie Scones Recipe
Known throughout Cajun Country and served only at The Colonels Red Bowtie Restaurant! Preheat oven to 425 F. In a large mixing bowl, combine the oats, flour, sugar, and baking powder In a second mixing bowl, whisk together the margarine, milk, and egg. Stir the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients just until combined (do not overmix !) Remove scone dough from bowl. Place on a flat lightly floured surface and flatten to 1/4 inch thick sheet with floured hands Trim flattened dough into a large rectangle. Remove trimmings and set aside. Make several horizontal cuts across the dough spaced approximately 4 inches apart. Make several vertical cuts about 3 inches apart down the length of the dough until smaller rectangles approximately 4 inches by 3 are formed. Cut diagonally across each smaller rectangle so two triangles are formed within each small rectangle. Remove each triangle and place scones on cookie sheet lightly sprayed with vegetable spray. If you have a lot of trimmings, using your fingers form small balls of scone dough approximately 1 inch in diameter and place on cookie sheet with scones. Bake at 425 F for about 12 - 15 minutes or until scones are golden brown. Serving suggestions: These scones are excellent served with a gourmet flavored coffee anytime !
