Ingredients

Preparation

Rinse chicken breasts and pat dry; place in Crock-Pot. In a saucepan, combine remaining ingredients and heat until smooth and hot. Pour over chicken breasts. Cover and cook on low setting for 8 to 10 hours. (I did iton higher heat to speed things up. I added boiled potatoes and some paprika towards the end.) For the first time ever, I used those frozen boneless skinless bags of chicken. NOT BAD! Also, I have never been one to cook with canned soups before: have learned my lesson. Once cooked in this recipe, you cannot tell there is canned soup as base for sauce. This is delish!!! Hint: Rivals recipe called for 4 ounces of mushrooms, but I doubled the quantity. You could leave them out if you dont like mushrooms. I had no Cream of Chicken soup and subd Cream of Celery. It was soooooo goooood that I think Ill just stick with Celery in the future!! Recipe by: Rival and Brenda Posted to MC-Recipe Digest V1 #664 by Badams on Jul 09, 1997

I browned my chicken first. Makes color more appitizing. I also added 1 cup sour cream to stretch the gravy. My family loves gravy. Made it very yummy. I cooked it 4-5 hours on low in crock pot. Delish!!

I used cream of celery soup. The sauce was very good. However the chicken was extreamly dry. If I try it again I will cut down the cooking time considerably or do it in an oven.

The sauce is lovely. I used breast halves as suggested, but found them dry, next time I will use the thighs and cook for only eight hours. I used the cream of celery soup, fresh mushrooms rather than the canned mushrooms and tarragon for the herb.

The kids loved it, even the one who does't usually care for meat. The other one asked for just plain gravy from the crock pot after all the chicken was gone. He ate it with a spoon. For me it was good, but not spectacular. I'd cut back the sherry by about half and replace with water, I found the wine flavor just a bit over the top.
