Basic Yellow Cake Ingredients

1 c Butter; softened 1 tb Baking powder
2 c Sugar 1/2 ts Salt
5 lg Eggs 1 1/4 c Milk
3 c All-purpose flour; sifted 1 ts Vanilla

Instructions for Basic Yellow Cake

Let eggs, milk, and butter stand till room temperature. Cream butter, gradually add sugar, beating well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt, add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in vanilla. Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans or 13x9 inch cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. I loved this recipe. I wanted to make strawberry shortcake but without a "biscuit-like" cake, so I found this recipe. I was out of vanilla extract(!!!!!) so had to used almond extract, but it was still lucsious and went great with my strawberries and whipped cream.
