Preparation

Lightly salt and pepper beef cubes and coat with flour. In hot skillet, saute with butter floured beef cubes until lightly browned. In a heavy pot saute onions until clear. Add meat, can of whole tomatoes,3 cups water*, bouillon, garlic, and parsley, thyme, salt and pepper. Add 1 cup of red wine if available. Cover, simmer 1 1/2 hours. I did not do the first step of the recipe as I just placed the beef and 2 large diced onions into a large pot and added the water and a can of diced tomatoes and followed the recipe from there, except at the end when I added gravy powder mixed with water to thicken it. I did add a sweet potato as well, but not the wine.
