Help with Meal Planning

I am trying to decide if I will buy this software. But I am having trouble with the meal planning function. I cannot enter an entire menu, only recipes. Is that a limitation on the trial version? Or is is simply something the software won't do.

How do you cope with that limitation and still make the planning function useful?

How do you

New Years Dinner Menu

There are many"lucky foods "for the new Year, New Year's revelers in Spain consume twelve grapes at midnight—one grape for each stroke of the clock. Cooked greens, including cabbage, collards, kale, and chard, are consumed at New Year's in different countries for a simple reason — their green leaves look like folded money, and are thus symbolic of economic fortune.Legumes including beans, peas, and lentils are also symbolic of money. The custom of eating pork on New Year's is based on the idea that pigs symbolize progress. The animal pushes forward, rooting itself in the ground before moving. Fish is a very logical choice for the New Year's table. According to Mark Kurlansky, author of Cod: A Biography of the Fish that Changed the World, cod has been a popular feast food since the Middle Ages. He compares it to turkey on Thanksgiving. The reason? Long before refrigeration and modern transportation, cod could be preserved and transported allowing it to reach the Mediterranean and even as far as North Africa and the Caribbean.Cakes and other baked goods are commonly served from Christmas to New Year's around the world, with a special emphasis placed on round or ring-shaped items.
In addition to the lucky foods, there are also a few to avoid. Lobster, for instance, is a bad idea because they move backwards and could therefore lead to setbacks. Chicken is also discouraged because the bird scratches backwards, which could cause regret or dwelling on the past. Another theory warns against eating any winged fowl because good luck could fly away.Text by Lauren Salkeld

Meal-Planning websites

I've just seen a blog posting about some meal-planning websites.  The one that most intrigued me was the meal mixer.  I haven't tried it, but I'm intrigued by the idea of something that can semi-randomly populate my weekly meal calendar with, say, 80% favorites and 20% "try soons" for the main courses, and then throw in vegetable side dishes for good measure.

Does anyone else have a hard time deciding just what to put on the menu?

What features would make menu planning more enjoyable?

I do use menu planning.  It helps to have the right stuff on the shopping list, and have some idea what to make for dinner every night.
I am hoping that future versions of  bigoven will make the planning process even easier with improved menu planning features. Like dragging a meal to another date, or changing the recipe scaling when you find out you are expecting more guests, and even making it easy to import/export a meal plan from the desktop to my chef's page, so we can share menus like we share recipes.

What makes menu planning easier for you?
