I have been in and out of photography for years. My digital cameras have been non-SLR type, which I miss. So, I was wondering if anyone had any luck with the Nikon "D" series cameras out there.
I like my Nikon D-60, an entry level D-SLR. But I'd recommend checking out some photography sites for specific recommendations about camera choices. There are some great photographers here, but there are sites better geared towards making an informed consumer choice. www.kenrockwell.com is the first that comes to mind but there are many others.
I actually bought my D-50 with the prize from a contest here on BigOven. I have sence added a d-100 to the collection and do all of my food (and other) photography with them.
I picked up a Sigma 35-80mm macro lens that had become my "standard" tool for shooting recipe photos.
Bottom line, the Nikon D series can be an excellent camera for food (and many other types of) photography. I compete frequently in competitions at a local photography club and certainly can hold my own against the folks with far more expensive equipment.
THE MOST IMPORTANT TOOL IN A PHOTOGRAPHER'S BAG IS THE UNIT THAT INTERFACES THE SHUTTER BUTTON TO THE VIEWFINDER.
