Subject: Moka Pot

Hi,

My loving brother sent me a moka pot for the winter holidays from CA. I love it! However, I've recently noticed that the bottom of the pot where it holds the water has discolorations that are brown, green, and white. The coffee never touches this, just water. Is it my water? We use filtered water every time... I haven't noticed any weird flavors imparted to the coffee. Any ideas?

You are likely seeing mineral deposits either from the pot or the water itself (or even from the coffee).  Here's a post on How to Clean Your Coffee Maker.  It was written for a drip coffee maker but should be fairly easily adaptable.

Thanks, Stevemur... I'll give it a shot.
