Is anyone a current subscriber to an organics-in-a-box type delivery service? Am evaluating these and would love any thoughts.
My favorite was the The Pike Place Market CSA, but unfortunately they discontinued their program this year due to organizational issues. Hopefully they will work them out at some point and start up again. The food wasn't all organic, but it was all local and very good. The downside to this program is that it is seasonal - April through October. I also like SPUD.com. They have a "Fresh Harvest Box" which is organic fruits and vegetables which are in season and they offer free delivery if you order a certain amount. Most of the food in the harvest box is local and also very good. My biggest problems with them were that I always got too much stuff that it went bad and I always had to throw some of it away ($30 of produce is too much for one person to eat before some of it goes bad). Some of the items included were also a little pricy in my opinion.. Overall, SPUD is the best I've found that still operates today. I'm also thinking of trying the new Amazon delivery service since they just started up in my area and it looks like they have lower delivery minimums - however, it doesn't look like they have "box" product for what it fresh and in season. -jim

Thanks for such a detailed answer. I think I may be trying SPUD. Luckily, BigOven gives me lots of ways to use up the produce, and I've got a family of five, which helps. Will report back here if I give it a whirl for a few months.
