Subject: Rotisserie -- where have you been all my life?

Wow, this newbie just discovered that his year-old DCS gas grill came with a rotisserie unit.  I unpacked it today and made:  http://www.bigoven.com/164590-Rotisserie-Chicken-(Grill)-recipe.html -- oh my was that fantastic!  I love rotisseries -- so easy to "time shift" all the hassle to couple hours earlier, and there's nothing like slow-cooking meats/poultry to make them super-tender.  Next time I'll probably make two of these -- one to have that night, and one to enjoy in leftovers during the week.

What a lucky find!  Kind of like finding an extra prize in a box of Cracker Jacks, yes?  Sounds like a delicious meal.

Another great dish to try out on your rotisserie is Alton Brown's gyro pitas.

Funny you should mention the Alton Brown gyros -- I happened to see that very episode last night ("My Big Fat Greek Sandwich") -- and am planning to make this soon.  The rotisserie is something I think I'll be using quite often.  We're lucky enough to have a covered outdoor grill/dining area right outside our kitchen, so rain, snow or shine, I can use it.

I am a huge fan of Alton Brown's Good Eats show.  Really informs and entertains...

I am so glad you saw it, because there is so much more info in that show (as most of his) than is conveyed in just a recipe.  I was going to offer to send it to you on Tivo but found it didn't record (even with a dual tuner Tivo, I had too many conflicting shows recording).

When we tried it using the oven version in 2006 and once again a few months ago, the meat came out perfect.  On the tzatziki sauce, we diced the cucumber MUCH finer than he did in the show and substituted dill for mint.  Loved it.  Can't wait to try it on a rotisserie on my charcoal grill this spring!

Totally agreed that Alton Brown is the ultimate in 'fooducation' and 'foodertainment'.  I learn things from Good Eats even from shows where I'd never make the recipe, but use the technique elsewhere.
