Subject: So, what's everyone's favorite coffee?

My favorite coffee is authentic Hawaiian Kona. Unbelievably good...

We love a sumatra coffe but are having a hard time getting something we really love.  We were buying a very "earthy" brand from Sam's Club but it's no longer available.  We've actually turned to blending our own.  We've found that adding a small amount of a good rich chocolate coffee gives it body and richness that sometimes it can be lacking.

Really? Do you just blend different beans together in a grinder? I always buy the whole bean and grind it fresh.

The cost of the Kona is kind of making it more prohibitive. I see a lot of offers for "green beans" that are Kona beans that are as much as $8 cheaper per pound. Anyone know how hard it is to roast your own coffee?

Years ago, I was watching an episode of Huell Howser, when he was interviewing the proprietor of a Cuban restaurant, and he was invited back to have "real" Cuban coffee with the owner's mother.  I noticed that a can of Cafe La Llave was on her counter, and that is what she used.  I went my local supermarket and found it there, and for a fraction of the cost of other espresso coffees.

When I got it home, I made a pot of French Press using this coffee.  I was amazed, it was really, really good.  Very rich, strong, great flavor.

Since then, my friend who was staying with me, and tried all sorts of different coffees (we had about 5 or 6 different bags at one time), announced that even though the coffee may be more expensive, more exclusive, etc., the Cafe La Llave still made the best cup of coffee.

Note that the grind for the coffee is an espresso grind, so you can use it in an espresso machine without further grinding.  With a  French Press that is supposed to use a courser grind, you might get a few grains of coffee in your cup by the end of the pot.

The only kind of coffee La Llave doesn't do is Armenian coffee.  For that you have to go to the Armenian store and buy the specially ground coffee.  It's worth it, too.

Hi everyone, I just joined today and boy do I love coffee.  My favorite is Pilon Cuban Espresso, which I make in one of those little Italian coffee pots you heat up on the stove.  Then I heat about half a mug of milk in the microwave, add cinnamon and Splenda, and pour in what amounts to about 2 shots of Cuban espresso.  Yummy, it's my morning wake up call.
