Subject: The New Foodsaver

I'm excited.   Yesterday, QVC had the brand new foodsaver as the "today's special value."   It's now on the way to me.

This one is a small footprint, so can stay on my counter top, and it does it all automatically.  I've been eyeing it for awhile now, and finally decided to bite the bullet.  That handi-vac thing just wasn't doing it for me.

For you Foodsaver addicts out there, check it out:

It's still cheaper on QVC than on the foodsaver site, although it comes with a little less accessories (which I don't need anyhow).

oops.   looks like that link won't take you directly to the item.  When you go to http://www.qvc.com/  just type the item number K15658 in the search box and that should do the trick.

Well, it's here.

This one takes some getting used to.   The reviews on QVC are nothing short of horrendous, but I've managed to solve the problems that they're complaining about.  What I think the FoodSaver people need to do is to redo their quick start guide.

If anyone buys one of these, here are a few tips that might save you tons of frustration.

1)  When unpacking (interesting in itself, because it's so well packaged), be sure to open the machine completely (press the two grey buttons where the roll storage is).  There's an extra bit of cardboard and tape inside, on the vacuum channel, that stops the machine from vacuuming and sealing.  Once removed, it works just great!!

2)  When trying to make a new bag from a roll, you have to press the seal button BEFORE inserting the bag into the channel.  If you put the bag in first, it won't seal the end.

3)  If suddenly, the machine won't vacuum and/or seal after it's been doing it, check the vacuum channel and the drip pan.  Just a little bit of grease getting in there will cause the machine to not work.   Just wipe it out and you're good to go again.

After several days of use, I am very happy with mine, and am keeping it.  Just remember that there's a little learning curve with this one.
