In America, we use the phrase "comfort food" to refer to familiar, easy-to-prepare food that often evokes memories of childhood.  Kids love comfort food because it's simple and has an uncomplicated taste.  Adults often crave comfort food for a sense of continuity and/or security.  It is usually savory and/or high in carbohydrates.
