Can I make biscuits with self-rising flour?

The simple answer is yes, you can make biscuits using self-rising flour. There are many biscuit recipes here in BigOven that use self-rising flour. To find them, look for recipes that include biscuits in the title and have self-rising flour as an ingredient.

If, by your question, your asking...can you substitute self-rising flour for all-purpose flour in a recipe calling for all-purpose flour? Then, the answer is a little more complicated. Self-rising flour is an all-purpose flour to which baking powder and salt have been added. They have been added in the approximate ratio of 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt for each cup of flour. You can replace the all-purpose flour with self-rising flour but you must also either omit or reduce the amount of baking powder and salt called for in the recipe by the appropriate proportions. If the recipe calls for more baking powder or salt than the self-rising flour contains, then you will still have to add some. If the recipe calls for the same amount of baking powder or salt that the self-rising flour contains, then you omit what the recipe calls for. If the recipe calls for less baking powder or salt than the self-rising flour contains, then you will have to decide what the extra will do to recipe...or. use all-purpose flour.
