Saying Hello

Hi everyone,

I am new to BigOven, but Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday.  The centerpiece turkey is usually herb and aromatic roasted, and I love looking for new side dishes to try each year.

I haven't started thinking about Thanksgiving this year yet -- still waiting for summer to really show up.  Still, finding this Thanksgiving group does get me thinking...

Getting ready for Thanksgiving, 2008.

What are your food plans for Thanksgiving 2008?  I'll be doing a dinner with my relatives from all across the country, and we need a turkey that can be made within 2 days.  I think I'll call ahead to the market to make sure they have a fresh one ready for pickup.  The piquant cranberry sauce (linked in this group) is always a favorite pairing, as is my mom's traditional bread stuffing.  You?

Leftovers

Sounds like everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving!  We spent it with my entire family at the family cabin in the Smokey Mountains where my mom cooked the meal.

Here are my two favorite dishes for using leftover turkey.

Wild Rice Soup - BigOven recipe #159672 (sorry no link...html isn't playing nice this morning).  Hearty, thick and a meal by itself.  It's more like a stew.

Turkey Tetrazzini - BigOven recipe #123751  This one is not the exact recipe I grew up with but it's close enough.

Thanksgiving 2007

So how did your Thanksgiving 2007 go? This isn't just me gushing about BO , But all the meal planning , prepping ( I used the menu planner to plan and track my meal prep ) and recipes that I got from here made things go off without a hitch! This is the first year ever that every last recipe worked well with no accidents or recipes that looked better on the screen than in the real world. YAY!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING Y'ALL

Wishing you all a very happy holiday.

:) Anne

Soup -- Make a day ahead

A few years ago I made a roasted yellow pepper and red tomato composed soup that guests are still raving about.  Basically, it's two different soups of equal density that, when poured simultaneously into the bowl, creates a colorful "ying-yang" type of presentation.  Amazing.
It takes nearly a full afternoon to make, but luckily the two components can be made a day ahead.  Guess what I'm making on Wednesday of this week?

Desserts?

Anyone have any dessert ideas?
