    RE: Cook'n import

Just to close the loop, for other readers who may encounter this issue, the simple resolution was to:

    1)  Copy -all- .DBF, .FPT and .CDX files to another directory on your PC.  Make sure you've exited out of both BigOven and Cook'n.

    2)  Run the Cook'n Import Wizard, which you can always find via Help/Import/from Cook'n.  (It's a separate tool to keep download size smaller for other users.)

    3)  Point it to the RC*.DBF file, typically named RC65.DBF, and click Next

    4)  The import wizard completes, and writes out an intermediate file.  It then calls BigOven, which loads that file into a new recipe box that you name.

    That's it.  Happy Cooking!

    Re: RE: Cook'n import

I like the idea of the Cookbook Import Wizard for Cook'n BUT I would like to be able to ONLY import certain Cookbooks of my choice and NOT the WHOLE entire collection of cookbooks all at once.

For example:  I might only want to import Cook'n with Gooseberry Patch or Cook'n with Pillsbury and not every single cookbook.  Is this possible or is there a work around to do this?

I tried it on my other computer using the 'Cookbook Import Wizard' and it copied all 17,000+ recipes into 1 Recipe Box.  I would like to be able to put Cook'n with Pillsbury say in a Recipe Box called 'PILLSBURY', so I don't have duplicates up the ying yang to have to clean up because every cookbook is placed in one RBox..

Any help with this issue will be greatly appreciated.

    Re: RE: Cook'n import

The free Cook'n Import Utility is a fairly simple utility meant to save retyping of any recipes currently stored in Cook'n.  Currently it does as you mention -- import recipes all into the same recipe box.

One workaround idea -- you might be able to selectively tag recipes in Cook'n with a particular tag, which BigOven will import, and then, once they are in BigOven, you can search for recipes with that tag and move or copy them to their own separate recipe box.  Hope that helps!

I really don't see a way to do this with Tags because Cook'n places all recipes from all the different cookbooks into one large .DBF file ie: Recipe8.dbf which, on my computer contains 53,315 kb so I think I am sunk for now until I can figure out how to just import one cookbook and not the whole collection resulting in 17,000+ recipes that contains many duplicate recipes.  I tried exporting just one cookbook but it doesn't store it in .DBF format, it stores it in .ck9 format that is compressed so there is no way that I can see to use the Import Wizard to import it.

If you have any other ideas they would be greatly welcomed!!  Thanks for trying to help, though.

    Re: RE: Cook'n import

I am currently following these instructions to get my Cook'n recipes into BigOven but I have a question:

Why do I need to copy all of the above mention files to a new folder if I am still only importing the rc65 file?

    Thanks for the help

It's not required, but it's recommended, and makes the instructions a little simpler (and minimizes the chances for errors) for more novice users.  Thanks!
