BigOven

I can publish recipies to my pda, but when I try to add to them, the ones already on the pda get erased despite my unchecking the "clear previously saved recipies" box. Can't seem to find any answer to this puzzle in previous posts, so I can only assume that I'm doing something wrong. Any ideas?

Are you noticing this on WinMobile or on the Palm? 

I just realized this weekend that I am having the same issue.  Despite unclicking the "clear recipes" box, I still end up with only one recipe on the PDA.

I am using a Palm III w/ version 4.5.1p operating system.  I am using version 1.8.972 of Big Oven.

We're having a little difficulty reproducing this here -- to clarify, we're sure it's happening to you, but just need to check a few things to see if it's the conduit that's misbehaving or the BigOven installation itself.

Can you try the following on your PC?

1)  First, find out which folder BigOven is using as a "Palm staging" folder on your PC.  This is found in the Windows registry (Start/Run regedit.exe... then navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Software\SDMVentures\BigOven and look at the "PalmDir" key).  Generally, this location is your "Shared Documents\My BigOven Recipes\Data\Palm" directory.

2)  Now, open up a windows Explorer Window to that Palm staging folder you found, and run BigOven.  Try selecting a few recipes and click "Publish to Mobile".  Be sure to click down the Palm icon button.  Watch the "Palm\Recipes" folder as the "recipes" folder fills up with a bunch of .BGO files for those recipes.  Verify whether or not it's behaving as you expect.

3)  Now, publish some more recipes to that folder, unchecking the "clear all recipes first" box. 

If you could report back to us to let us know whether that directory is filling up for you as you expect (without HotSync), that'd be helpful.  Thanks!

I did this and the folder did fill up multiple recipes as I published them.  I then did a hot sync and it did put the two recipes that I had selected.

I went back into BigOven and published one more recipe, making sure to de-select the "first clear other recipes" box.  The hotsync published that one recipe but deleted the two others.

I did notice that when I opened the palm/recipes folder after each hotsync, it was now empty of the recipe files that were in there when I "published them to a mobile device".  I don't know if it is supposed to clean itself out after a hotsync or not.

I then tried publishing files in BO and then closed out.  I opened BO again and published some more files.  I checked the palm/recipes folder and it then held all of the recipes from both publishing sessions. 

I hope this helps. 

This isn't a huge issue for me, because I don't plan to store a lot of recipes on my palm, it is just a temporary thing while shopping or cooking for one specific meal.  But I will be glad to assist in any trouble shooting.

Oh yeah, my BigOven folder and subfolders are in the shared documents folder on my PC since I network it on my laptop and desktop.  I didn't know if that would have anything to do with it.

After a hotsync, the new recipies appear but the old ones are gone.

This has been logged for investigation -- it may be a while though before we can address it. 

It appears that for the free Palm Companion only, what's happening is that the folder is being cleared out at the end of the sync.  As a manual workaround for now, you can manually make a backup copy of the Palm staging folder's contents somewhere on your PC (with all the recipes), then copy the recipes you want back in there before HotSyncing.  We'll check into this, but it may be a little while before we can address it. 

If this isn't satisfactory, i.e., if the primary reason you've purchased the product is to load in a full library of recipes to your Palm, we'd be happy to process a refund for you.  Thanks

Reproduced, found and fixed in our labs [see next post for a free fix]. 

This is was a design error in the BigOven Palm Conduit, which was automatically deleting recipes from the PC's Palm staging area after they were successfully transferred to the Palm.  We shouldn't have been clearing them out in the conduit app. 

So, we've done a new build of "BigOvenConduit.DLL" which we'll be publishing shortly (see next post) that fixes the problem here in our labs.  Thanks much for bringing this to our attention.
