I have starter version 1.8.977 and have used it for years.  It suits my purpose quite well and I do not need the deluxe version.  However, every time I open it, a window asking if I want to check for updates.  I wrote about this problem a while ago and was told how to fix it (I think that was when I was given my present version to install - not sure about this).  It did seem to work for a short while but then it started coming up again.  I just haven't taken the time to address it.  Today I did check for new updates, installed the new version that it gave me (1.8.978) but I still have 1.8.977 and the window coming up to ask if I want to check for updates.  I probably am outside the time that I am eligible for free upgrades.  Is this update window just something I will have to put up with?

Hi Pat, thanks for your purchase.  The "check for updates" message comes up after a month's use in the starter edition, and if you simply press "OK", it'll go to a webpage to check to see if you've got the most recent version, and then not bug you again for another month.  Sounds like you've got the latest version; there may be a separate issue that the installer just didn't update your version to 1.8.978; we'll check into that as soon as we can.

Incidentally, we're not charging for updates to the 1.x codebase (until the next major release).
