It seems so obvious I can't believe you haven't thought of it - or maybe it's just too hard to do BUT if you had a field for 'preparation' or something like to cover things like 'well beaten', 'diced, etc then the combine feature for the shopping lists would be able to work better. I realize it might make imports a little more cumbersome but I personally think it would be worth it.

I am a new user. I chose BigOven because frankly you really are the best out there. Easier to use than any of the others. Good work. 

Thanks, yes, there is a field right now for "Preparation Notes" or "PrepNotes" in a recipe (as well as the shopping list). 

Currently, items will combine only if they have exactly the same units, ingredient names and prepnotes.  That is, it will add "2 tablespoons onions chopped" and "4 tablespoons onions chopped" but not "1 cup onion" and "2 tablespoons onion".  We are working on improved unit/combine features in a future release... thanks!

Nope, we don't have an update on that.  We're working hard on many improvements to BigOven and you'll continue to see a lot of improvements from us over '09.
