Can't import recipes after downloading update, getting 'invalid date checksum' error

I loaded a download, and can not longer import recipes (using the gray import button). Am online, that's not the problem. Also have error message 'invalid date checksum' when going to desktop links. After update (tried twice before it worked) I have too many desktop links, all but one getting this message. Never had a problem before - I have the deluxe version.

Please see this message -- sounds like you don't have a proper installation; in the vast majority of cases, it's counterfeit keys and/or unauthorized patches that will cause this error message.  The best way to remove this error message is to follow the steps in this post:

Please explain more. First link on message would not open. I bought and installed the deluxe program over a year ago. Have had no problems until I recently downloaded an update from Big Oven. Are you saying I need to remove the program and reinstall it? How do I prevent this from happening again with any further updates?

Re: Can't import recipes after downloading update, getting 'invalid date checksum' error

In a normal installation this shouldn't happen -- the primary cause of this is due to an unauthorized (but widely distributed) patch being applied to the purchase/activation system.  We wish we didn't have to put anti-theft measures into the software, but we do, in order to protect the service levels for all legitimate purchasers like yourself.  There are probably other ways it can happen (such as system date changes or registry alterations) but these are very, very rare.  We're not saying that your installation is unauthorized, but it's the primary reason this can happen -- For others reading this thread, the original and updates to BigOven should only be downloaded from www.bigoven.com, not shareware sites that accompany the software with patches.

The way to get this working again is to do a full reset (i.e., remove the registry information relating to BigOven, per the instructions at http://www.bigoven.com/docs/fullreset.htm) and install the application again.  This shouldn't occur at all in normal installations, and shouldn't happen again.  Also, note that you won't lose any recipe or shopping list data at all, merely remove the program from your PC and install the program.

Re: Can't import recipes after downloading update, getting 'invalid date checksum' error

Thanks for the response. Fortunately, I have my installation disc and serial number. Since I have not changed computers, not performed a system reset or registry alteration, and given the fact that I had no problem until the update, I remain at a loss as to the cause. Nor have I added any other program to my computer since the download.

At that time, I logged onto my BigOven, and a prompt asking if I wanted to see if an upgrade was available, and when it said there was, I downloaded that.  I exited out of BigOven as per the directions prior to initiating the download, and proceeded as directed. The download did not initially work, and I received another prompt the next time I logged on, and the second time it was downloaded it worked. I didn't try to import any recipes in between the two downloads, so don't know if the problem began with the failed first attempt or the second successful attempt.

Another good reason to keep installation discs.
