BigOven

 Amazing new development for iPhone and Touch users-- an application called Grocery Gadgets will import your BigOven shopping lists. Here's how it works: you make your shopping list in BigOven, then go to File/Save shopping list. This generates a .bsg file in the Big Oven\Data\Shopping Lists folder. Then, from your Grocery Gadgets web portal you import the .bsg (shopping list) file to a Grocery Gadgets list. This list automatically syncs to any iPod Touch or iPhone with the Grocery Gadgets App installed.

From there you can do all kinds of cool things, like share the list with any Touch or iPhone that shares the same Grocery Gadgets account, add forgotten items to your grocery list from a computer at work and have another family member sync it and buy the groceries on their way home.

I have been using Grocery Gadgets for a few months and it's a really nifty app-- much easier than a paper/pencil list; the developers are incredibly responsive to user feedback. I liked it well enough that I was actually manually entering my BigOven shopping lists. The fact that I can now import them makes it an almost perfect world.

I realize I sound like one of those people who write fake reviews on Amazon. Not so-- just a person who has been using BigOven for three years and likes computers even more than cooking.

Just a note -- we're also looking into BigOven-hosted shopping list features for both the iPhone and website... thanks!

I bought both apps in hopes of doing exactly what you are doing ( create the list in big Oven, import to Grocery Gadget and sync to Iphone). But it is not working WHAAAA!

I can create a grocery list. I  save it as a .bsg. I then log into Grocery Gadget, go to the import tag. Under the "Select imported data type" button I select "Big Oven Shopping List", then select " Or select existing list" and select the current list I have  created. I browse the source file and find the .bsg , select it and hit the "start import" button- every single time the import fails!!!!!

I contacted grocery Gadget and their tech support said the entire contents of the file I saved to import is this:

<SAVEDATE>07/21/09</SAVEDATE>
</SHOPPINGLIST>

This question is best answered by GG support... (we don't officially support it; we're working on our own grocery list features for the app).

Thanks for the quick response, but it is a problem on Big Oven's end,, because when I save the Shopping list in your program, there is nothing in the list.After I save it and open it in a text editor I get the info listed above and nothing else.

 So, either I am doing something wrong in saving ( going to file tab- clicking save grocery list) or there is a glitch in the software.

Oh, sorry, didn't understand that.  Can you email us with a specific reproduction case that causes this?  Or perhaps you could take your "support.csy" file (from your "My BigOven Recipes/Data" directory) and zip it up and email it to us.

Also, it sounds like your shopping list may be blank -- have you clicked on the Shopping icon on the left hand side of the program and verified that items are in fact on your shopping list?  Can you drag and drop recipes onto your shopping list and see the items added?  If not, please see this thread:

 Admin, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have been away from the computer. My personal tech support ( husband) after a few hours finally figured out that I was not using the most current edition of Big Oven. I have only had it downloaded since 7/21, so I m not sure how come the most current verssion would not have been the one I downloaded. However, after we upgraded to the most current version all problems were fixed.

 That's a question for the makers of the product you mention, but we'll be adding grocery list features soon to our iPhone app...

 Any update on the grocery list feature for the iphone app?  It's been... well...  a long time in development :)

We released grocery list services (along with a lot of other features) for the website, an Android app, an API, updates to the iPhone, and more.  There's a lot in development; we generally don't comment on new features or products until they are in beta.  We'll let you know when it's ready for beta.  Thanks!

I have read all the post relating to adding the big ovens grocery list to grocery gadget and I signed up with bigoven and I have added some items to the grocery list from one of your recipes.

In one of the post you instruct us to save the big oven grocery list. I don't see that option at all. Do you have to buy the big oven software in order to save the list?

When I click on my grocery list the only options I get is email and print the list. Please help.

 Yes, in the current free web-hosted grocery list, you can only have one list at a time (it is remembered on the site), and you cannot currently save it.
