Import from backup after installing update - Starter Edition

I'm very frustrated and trying not to get angry.  I don't use this program enough to truly appreciate it's capabilities.  I just use it to log in my own recipes.  Someday maybe I'll take the time to move up but, for now, I use the Starter Edition.

This morning when I opened the program to add a recipe I was prompted to update.  I was warned to backup my existing version and then told to delete the existing version and load the new.  All fine and good.  Now, if I try to import my Standard Recipe Box, it says I can't import into recipe box I am currently viewing.  With the Starter Edition I cannot switch to another Recipe Box, or create a new Recipe Box.

Unless someone can give additional information, it appears I either lose the recipes I've input or have to pay to update to the full program.

Not Happy.  If a warning would have existed I could have pulled my recipes out before updating, or not updated.  Can someone help me save my recipes?

     Hi there,

Sorry about the frustration!  (We do provide a warning to backup the recipe folder before proceeding, and the uninstall process specifically presents a dialog to confirm if you want to fully delete any existing recipe box data.)

The good news is that if you have that backup folder, it's simple to get it restored again with your new free update.  We definitely agree it could be simpler, and we'll look into that.

Key idea:  You don't "import" existing BigOven recipe boxes, you close out of BigOven and use Windows Explorer to file-copy them to the place BigOven is looking for them on your PC.

and, if necessary:  BigOven's registry settings -- where BigOven looks for the "My BigOven Recipes" folder

WOW!  That was insanely quick on the answer.  I'm very impressed.

Worked beautifully too.  Now I'm all smiles.  Thank you very much!

BTW, the product and your website do look great.  I'm afraid I'm not the cook in the family.  I just keep the recipes.  I'll have to get the spouse on here.

     Thanks again.
