Post-install of update: can't import, 0 recipes in status bar

Did update (BO deluxe version) install w/out removing all data during uninstall of previous version.  Searched bigoven.com archive for recipes using FIND button, clicked one result, clicked "IMPORT" button & screen on right changed to Butter Pecan Pie recipe w/ the pic from the garlic thyme chicken recipe.  Tried importing several other recipes from results list, all with exact same outcome.

Uninstalled updated version, cleared registry entry (per instructions on bigoven.com), re-installed update.  Same results after clicking "IMPORT" only this time got the Butter Pecan Pie recipe w/ pic of a berry pie.

Also, recipe count in status bar (no matter which Rbox I'm in, or what recipe I click on) says 0 recipes. According to forum, this seems to be a common issue w/ new update.  Not too worried about this one - more concerned w/ import issue.

    Help please. thanks.

That's really strange -- can you tell if it's switching recipe boxes on you (in the title bar)?

Let's try to narrow down what might be going on -- haven't seen this before.

My first guess is that it might have something to do with the program trying to import a recipe into a box that it cannot import into (e.g., it's hit its maximum capacity or it is read-only), or switching to a recipe box that for some reason it cannot read (perhaps it's become corrupted).

    Can you try:

    1) Try importing from the website into different recipe boxes, including brand new ones you create.  Do you see the same behavior?  Watch the title bar -- is it staying in those recipe boxes?

    2)  Try creating a new recipe from the toolbar, not via Website Import.  Are you able to create a recipe, move to another recipe, and return to the one you've created, with it saved as expected?

    3)  Double check the full path of your recipe box, and make sure there are no apostrophe's in it -- e.g., "June's Recipe Box", or c:\documents and settings\steve's documents\my bigoven recipes\etc.  This has been known in the past to create erratic behavior.

If you see this just in one recipe box, zip it up and email it to us and we'll take a look.  Thanks!

Re: Post-install of update: can't import, 0 recipes in status bar

Think I discovered the issue - during installation I had changed the location of the MyBigOven Recipes folder from the shared folder to My Documents.  Apparently My Big Oven did not like this.  After uninstalling & re-installing, I let it go to the default location (shared folder) and all seems to be working properly now.

Suggestion - during install process, on screen indicating where My Big Oven Recipes folder is to be located, REMOVE the Change button (do not give user option to change location).  Having the option to change the location implies the program will be ok with the changed directory, which it clearly is not.

thanks for such quick replies to my posts!  I love the product & am happy to have it all figured out now :)

    Glad to hear it.

BigOven does indeed work if you change the folder to another directory, but you need to have full read/write/execute permissions on that directory.   My guess is that when you changed it to another folder, that folder happened to not have full read/write/execute permissions for you (which it should, by default, in Windows).  Glad it's back and running and that the two errors are solved!
