problems syncing with BigOven for Windows Mobile. HELP!!!

    problems syncing with BigOven for Windows Mobile. HELP!!!

    I have used the BigOven for Palm for a number of years now and really enjoyed it.  I am now trying to use my upgraded phone/palm pilot combo - Palm Treo Pro.  I have already spoken to the support for my phone people and the application for BigOven shows up on the device, however, the recipe list and shopping list I have selected do NOT sync.  What am I doing wrong?  HELP!!!!

     Try reinstalling the free Palm Companion again -- make sure you don't close the DOS box that pops up during install -- it can take about 2 mins to register the conduit with the Palm Sync app.

    Hi Steve,

     

    Thanks for the suggestion, but it hasn't worked.  I have done that now, and even moved the installation location from the mini SD card to the system - no luck.... now what do you think?????

     Oh wait -- the Palm Treo Pro uses Windows Mobile, correct, not Palm?  If so, be sure that the BigOven application is fully exited when activesync starts, and keep it on your main memory (recipes are synched to \My Documents\).

    Haveing the same sort of problems. Running a Palm Treo Pro with windows mobile 6 and recipes appear to sink ok, however, no shopping list. It will partially sync when the shopping list file is manually deleted off the phone, but not the entire list. After that inital load the phone then reports an error and the list is gone. Also the meal plan recipes don't seem to sync just the one selected in bigoven.

     First thoughts were a security issue so I checked all the files/folders had permission and double checked activesync to no joy. The Bigoven program is running under administrator mode and it is deffinitly syncing to the right folders as the recipes work.

    Window 7 home premium 32bit RTM version

    Latest activesync installed.

    Bigoven windows and mobile are up to date.

     It is likely that the file is "in use" on your Windows Mobile device.  Make sure you are fully exited out of the free BigOven Windows Mobile Companion (File/Exit), not just minimized in the background.

    Tried that by killing the aplication in task manager (on the phone). Even after rebooting the phone the problem still exists. Also tried running the windows app in xp compatability mode with the same result.

    Quick question. Should the file type be the same on the mobile and the PC? I can manually save the shopping list BGS file to the phone, however, this imediately brings up an exception error on the phone. Going the other way though and opening the BGS file from the phone on the pc is fine.

     I'm tending to think the problem is in the software on the phone. When it does sync I cannot view the entire list as it gets part way down and stops. You can see the next items but cannot scroll the entire way. I also checked available memory on the phone and there is plenty of space and program mem.

    ***Ok a little bit more information for you. After syncing the ilist.xml file in the main bigoven folder on the phone is updated fully.** and still the problem exists :(

     The files should be compatible, however, if you've got some special characters (i.e., non letters, non-numbers) it may cause problems on the free Mobile Companion.  Can you send us a copy of the shopping list file that isn't quite working, and we'll take a look... thanks!  (support @ bigoven.com)

    I am still having these same problems too.  Is there some specific place that I should be saving the small files?  I have tried my documents, public documents, etc.  Same matter of the shopping list not updating and the recipe list ending after the first part.  I have already made sure that there are no symbols in the recipe names, so that is not the issue.  Also, is there a specific limit to how many recipes can be included in the Windows Mobile file?

    On your PC, you should have ActiveSync installed.  The free BigOven for Windows Mobile relies upon ActiveSync's File Transfer to transfer over the files to your "My Documents" area on your Windows Mobile Device.  In the File / Publish to Mobile Device dialog on BigOven, you need to make sure that BigOven is writing to that ActiveSync File Sychronization folder on your PC.
