Import feature not working - sometimes

So, I am fairly new to the BigOven app, still in my trial actually, but I have been hammering away at it quite a bit. I have used the "Import" button when viewing recipes in BigOven from the "archives" and it has worked on several occasions. But there is this one recipe that everytime I hit the "Import" button, it displays a completely different recipe and the desired recipe does not import. Have tried it several times with the same result. The recipe I am trying to import is Artichoke Pesto Hummus and the recipe that is displayed both in the left nav and in the viewing area everytime is another recipe I have successfully imported, Black Bean, Tomato and Avocado Salad. However, I will try to import another completely different recipe and it works fine. Is there something different about the Artichoke Pesto Hummus recipe that I am not seeing? Thank you!

BigOven import ignores MM headings

I'm an old-skool Meal-Master user (how old? version 5 in 1989, that's how old), finally looking for something to replace my venerable copy of MM v8.08. BigOven was well in the running . . . UNTIL.

I imported a hundred recipes from an .MMF (normal, plain, flat-text format, no MMMs or or anything included in headers and footers to confuse the issue) and was way distressed to find that BO had ignored EVERY SINGLE ONE of the MM ingredient section headings! Just blew right past 'em, didn't make the least attempt to incorporate that information. "Bit bucket for you!" seems to be the import routine's attitude.

Is this a bug? Is there something that must be done during the import process that I don't yet understand? 'Cos I guarantee you, if BO can't be made to import headings properly, it's out of consideration and out the door. I don't have the leisure to sift through my 13,000 recipes (which I already had to reformat by hand(!) once, when I imported to MM from QuikBook several years ago) and piddle round with adding back the headings manually.

It appears to be working properly now. One question though. Which program formats recipes using @@@@@, Meal-Master? Just curious because some of the recipes in the MammasRecipes.zip file begin with this rather than the Mastercook formatting.

Title: BAMBERGER KRAUTBRATEN (BAMBERGER MEAT AND CABBAGE C

1 lb Cabbage; Head, Small
1 tb Vegetable Oil
2 Onions; Medium, Chopped
1/2 lb Pork; Lean, Cubed
1 lb Ground Beef; Lean
1 ts Caraway Seed
1/2 ts Salt
1/2 ts Pepper
1/2 c White Wine; Dry
1 ts Vegetable Oil
3 Bacon; Strips, Thick Sliced

Remove outer, wilted cabbage leaves and core. Place cabbage in a
large pot of boiling water and simmer gently for 10 minutes. Remove
and drain. gently pull off 12 leaves and set aside. Finely chop the
rest of the cabbage. Heat 1 T vegetable oil; add onions, pork, and
ground beef. Cook until lightly browned. Drain off excess fat. Add
the chopped cabbage, caraway seeds, salt, and pepper. Pour in the
white wine. Cover and simmer the mixture for 10 minutes, stirring
often. Grease an ovenproof dish with 1 t of vegetable oil; line the
dish with half the cabbage leaves. Spoon in the meat mixture, cover
with the rest of the cabbage leaves. Cut bacon strips in half and
arrange on top. Place in preheated 350 degree F. oven; bake for
approximately 45 minutes.

Reinstalling on a new Vista machine

I got the program installed and it recognized my previous purchased program serial number.

I cannot find the correct place to copy my recipe files from the old computer. I used the instructions in your FAQ but Vista does not have the same exact file directories. I tried copying them to my documents>(created)MyBigOvenRecipes. I also tried copying them to Users>Public> and that didn't work either.

And if you can tell me the correct place to copy them, and once I do that, how do I get Big Oven to recognize them so they will open like they did on my old computer?

Demo installation problem.

I just installed the evaluation copy on a Wndows7 system this weekend, and I'm pretty impressed, but I also have a quirky show-stopper.

The system has two users, my wife and I. The demo software will only run under whichever user installed it -- it won't allow the other person to run it, displaying a message that says the eval period has expired. Usually, most software allows any user on the system to run it.

I've uinstalled and re-installed a couple times using both accounts and this seems to be the bug. I suspect the software is putting a counter in the user's app data area somewhere, but I'd like to find a work-around.

Any ideas?

Not sure how to use this in the real world

What I'm looking for is a place to put my own recipes so I can get them on my iPHone, and sync them up with my shopping application (Grocery Gadget which imports Big Oven). I can see how to "find" a recipe and tag it as a favorite, and how to submit a recipe, but it looks like from a copyright point of view I can't take an existing recipe (like a recipe for scones) and add my own notes (use less sugar and add the rind of on orange to make it awesome). Is there a way I can "submit" recipes of my own, but not make them public? Is BigOven the right software for that?

Menu Planning without Recipes

Does the menu planning tool only accommodate recipes? How do I flesh it out to create my daily plan with all the bits in the proper places? Some meals/snacks either don't need a recipe at all or need just a few extra items (I know you can add them to shopping list). I'd like to use the menu planner as our family's nutrition intake guideline, a complete summary of intentions including meals out (then I know I don't have to cook). How do I add "fruit" as a snack (which I may or may not need to show up on the shopping list and if needed can appear as "fruit"), or "crackers" as a side item to go with the dip recipe I'm planning, or if I make soup for supper with a recipe, how do I show that we'll be having leftovers of it for lunch without ending up with a double set of ingredients required on the shopping list, or "dinner out" ...so that I can create a complete MENU PLAN? Thanks for your help. :)

Problem editing recipe from the web

I have tried to make corrections, from the web site, to the instructions on two different recipes. The only edits I made were to the instructions. In both cases, when I posted the revision, the "Headings" in the ingredient section were changed into "ingredients", preceded by a 1 in the amount field, and all fractional amounts of ingredients were changed to decimal amounts, e.g., 1/4 to .25, 1/3 to .3333. I had to make my changes and repost both recipes from the desk top application to correct the headings and fractional amounts.

RE: Red x when viewing pictures

Hmm. The red x indicates that it either cannot find or cannot display the image file that is indicated in the database (see the "Notes/Keywords" tab for the name of the file it is trying to load -- it is looking in the recipe box's "Pictures" subfolder for this file).

Things to double-check:

1) Does this happen on all recipe themes, or just one? The screenshot you supplied (thanks!) was from a blue theme -- does it happen with all recipe themes in Tools/Options/Themes? Do you have read/write permissions on the "My BigOven Recipes" folder that you're using?

2) Does it happen even with the recipes that ship with the "Standard" recipe box?

3) Have you installed your program using the default file locations, or moved the file locations around at all? (BigOven looks for the pictures in the "Pictures" subfolder of whatever "My BigOven Recipes\Rbox" folder you're using. So, for Standard, for instance, the recipe box file "standard.crb" lives in "My BigOven Recipes\Rbox\Standard", and the pictures for it live in a subfolder "My BigOven Recipes\Rbox\Standard\Pictures". If this folder has been moved or renamed in any way, you may see that behavior.

4) Are you noticing it on all recipes or just a couple?

5) Do you have Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher installed? (yes is the right answer here :-) )

View menu calendar for the week and not just the day

Is there some way to view your weekly meals....7 days at a time instead of just 1 day at a time? It's driving me crazy not being able to see the week at a glance. Please help.

Screen Import Problem

Often when I try a screen import the ingredients list will have stars in front of them that are not on the web page. This messes up the import unless I manually edit the capture first. For example, this is a screen shot of a recipe on BigOven.com:

Stuffed Peppers

"Green peppers stuffed with ground beef and rice and topped with a seasoned tomato sauce."

I have used the BigOven for Palm for a number of years now and really enjoyed it. I am now trying to use my upgraded phone/palm pilot combo - Palm Treo Pro. I have already spoken to the support for my phone people and the application for BigOven shows up on the device, however, the recipe list and shopping list I have selected do NOT sync. What am I doing wrong? HELP!!!!

When I upgraded I copied the recipe files back upver and that worked fine. But all of the nutrient data I had added isn't there. I'm sure I missed a file somewhere. Can I get a clue ?

Duplicate recipe boxes

I am fairly new to BigOven. I have added new recipe boxes and for some reason I now have more than one copy of some of them. For example I have 3 crockpot recipe boxes and they all have the same recipes in them. How do I delete one without them all getting deleted?

Just to close the loop, for other readers who may encounter this issue, the simple resolution was to:

1) Copy -all- .DBF, .FPT and .CDX files to another directory on your PC. Make sure you've exited out of both BigOven and Cook'n.

2) Run the Cook'n Import Wizard, which you can always find via Help/Import/from Cook'n. (It's a separate tool to keep download size smaller for other users.)

3) Point it to the RC*.DBF file, typically named RC65.DBF, and click Next

4) The import wizard completes, and writes out an intermediate file. It then calls BigOven, which loads that file into a new recipe box that you name.

That's it. Happy Cooking!

Switching primary photo

Ingredients missing on recipe

I posted a recipe for spiked apple cider on 10-31-09. It is recipe number 175563. The instructions said it would take a few minutes for it to appear and when it did, the ingredients list was not shown. I have checked back periodically, but still they are not showing. I checked other posts here and one on editing a recipe said to click on the "edit recipe" button under the recipe name, but I do not see such a button. Any ideas on how I can fix this? Oh, I am using the web-based program, btw.
