Grocery List

Hi there. New to Big Oven and just made a list of items from multiple recipes. A couple suggestions...

There should be a choice to ADD ANOTHER RECIPE or be able to add multiple recipes from the Try Soon section to your shopping list.

When you do add multiple recipes, the shopping list should combine the same ingrediants such as if two recipes added to the shopping cart needed eggs, they should be added together not listed twice.

That's all the input I have otherwise I really like the site and the recipes. thanks you and happy cooking.

mismatch in shopping list

Problem: I'll add an item to the ingredients list in the tools-options-ingredients window and then add that ingredient item to a recipe. But when I execute the shopping list for that recipe sometimes it has a mismatch in the "Dept/Aisle" item compared to the ingredient list in the tools-options-ingredients database.

Introducing the BigOven Grocery List... now in beta, at http://www.bigoven.com/grocery.

Features

Add a recipe right from the recipe page -- instead of saying "2 cloves garlic, 1 can anchovies", etc., you simply add the Caesar Salad recipe to your grocery list!
Add an arbitrary item to your grocery list... BigOven will guess the aisle for it
Easily add items with a single text line -- e.g., enter "1 1/2 lb Chicken Breast; Boneless" and BigOven will figure out what the item is (Chicken Breast), the quantity (1 1/2 lbs), notes (Boneless), and Department/Aisle (Poultry)!
Print your grocery list
or, perhaps best of all -- email it to a family member or yourself for easy access on the go!

Not yet implemented, but planned for the future:

Easily access your grocery list from BigOven for the iPhone and BigOven Mobile Web for Blackberry and other cellphones (reachable at bigoven.com slash m)
Scale recipes up or down before adding them to the list
Save shopping lists and retrieve them in the future
Publish shopping list(s) from BigOven for Windows to your online list
Allow other household members that you approve (who have BigOven logins) to read and/or modify your lists

This service is in beta testing.

It's not yet perfect, but we're finding it pretty useful here, so we wanted to get it to you for feedback today.

NOTE: This is currently free for all users, but we do not guarantee it will be free forever. We reserve the right to bundle this in with a low-cost subscription offering we are planning for the future that'll provide a number of "extra" services such as this one. (We'll ask you to opt-in to that service -- so test away!)

Search Window Obscures Login and User Area on screen

The subject above says it all. When logging in, the user textbox is partially covered by the search window. Once logged in, the user area is partially covered and the first visible link is Try Soon. There is no way to move the search window and no way to close it. The search window needs a new spot to reside in.

Can't log on

Every time I try to open big oven I get this message. Sorry could not open recipe box c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Bigoven Recipes\Rbox\Standard\standard.crb Possible causes: 1. You may be missing microsoft data Access Compantents(MDAC) library, which is a free download please see our FAQ at www.bigoven.com/faq.htm ((I have done this several times, I have also paid $6.32 for a program to repair any MDAC issues, but when I tried to run it I get the same error messages as with Big Oven because it is using big oven to open with.)) 2. Big Oven is looking in the wrong location for your My BigOven Recipes folder. This could happen if you installed Big Oven on one windows user account and are trying to open it with another account. In a moment I'll prompt you to verify that location. ((I am the only user account)) 3. You have moved recipes boxes from their normal location or you have used special characters(eg;,'/' etc.) in the recipe box names, which is not allowed. ((I have not done that)) Than it prompts me to verify the location of your My BigOven Recipe folder on the next screen ((I click on c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\My BigOven Recipes. Then I get Sorry could not open Recipe Box c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ Documents\My BigOven Recipes\Standard\standard.crb. Then Big Oven comes up blank I have also verified the HKEY_CURRENT_USER settings and they appear just fine. Can someone out there help me? TIA Karen Ross

Sorry, I am probably being a total numpty here. But how do I add a recipe to my favourites. I have been looking in vain for a fav button but can't find one. The recipe I am trying to save is a video recipe, can you fav those ?

wonderful idea, but as stated before, wrong photo with grocery list and no "print" button as there is in the recipe section so I printed out 2 extra pages of junk just to get my ingredients

I just started playing with Big Oven, both online and on my iPhone, to see if it would be worth buying. I was not aware that it was in beta until I stumbled upon this forum. I just spent a considerable amount of time entering a new recipe by hand. I wanted to test adding it to my iPhone. After I clicked Submit, it gave me one last chance to spot any errors. After seeing a typo, I clicked on the Back button to fix it. It said I was not the author of the recipe and I did not have the proper rights to modify it. It said that I should contact the administrator if I was in fact the author.

First of all, I am very upset that all my work was lost. It's been over 30 minutes and I still can't seem to find the recipe online. I can only assume that it has been lost

Second, I have no idea how to contact the administrator since the error did not give me the means to do so. You can't tell someone to go do something and not tell them how to do it. That's simply poor design of your software.

So far, I am not very impressed with this service and I honestly can't say that I would buy the software after this failed demonstration.

install on Vista

In Vista Home premium, I installed the trial software as administrator. When I switched one of the standard user account the software said the trial had expired. How do I install the software so it is available to all users? It seems to only work in the admin account.

wrong recipe with photo

An image of toasted bread, tomatoes and home grown garlic that I posted with a bruschetta recipe when I first joined big oven and learning how to navigate is now showing in my photos with recipe of Mary's Cristmas Anise Cookies. When you click on the image of toasted bread it goes to cookie recipe with no image. Originally I had submitted a bruschetta recipe with this image but later deleted it. That is when the photo showed up with the cookie recipe. Is there a fix that I can do or is it a big oven issue?

Degree symbol not showing up online.

Hi, You have this lovely method for inputting the degree symbol in recipes in the BigOven program on the edit page. But, when I post the recipe to your website it comes out as a question mark "?". So my oven temperature shows up as "450?F". Problem?

Unable to import recipes from Cook 'n

I have tried to export from Cook 'n and import using the tool provided by Big Oven. The problem I am finding is the recipe file (my own recipes) on the Cook 'n program I am trying to get away from using has an extension of .dbo but the tool is looking for a file type of .dbf

can not log on through program

I use to be able to look up recipes through the program but I now get an error that I can not connect to the web page, even thoug I am connected. Big Oven is allowed in my trusted sites, it is not blocked in my firewalls and the disable scriped is checked. What has happened? Is there an update that I need? I can not figure out what is wrong.

How do I add a recipe from the big oven web site?

I'm new, so maybe this is obvious. But can you find recipes by ingredients. I logged on to this site looking for a recipe for mint jelly. The internet search landed me on Big Oven and the video on that site was about Grilled Lamb Shoulder Chops. It looked great but could not find out how to access the recipe. So I played the video over until I could write down the recipe. Surely this isn't how this works?

Problems with Scale Icon under Recipe Edit

The icon with the scale to auto-link ingredients to the USDA databank for nutritional analysis is not working for me. It does not bring up the Ingredient Details window. I run Windows Vista. Thanks.
