BigOven

I got the update info when I opened up the application. After reading through all the warnings about doing a full uninstall/reinstall I did a backup, downloaded the new version and installed it. Unfortunately all I get now is a message box, "BigOven expects a newer version of Windows. Get a newer version of Windows." 

 I'm not terribly surprised that it no longer supports a 16-bit OS. BUT, I'm a bit surprised that the upgrade info didn't warn me about it. I would have updated the version on my (WinXP) laptop and left the older version on my (P3, 900mhz) desktop.

Of course this is an incentive to get off my butt, get out my wallet, and upgrade my desktop machine. I just wasn't quite ready to do it this weekend.

 Hmm, it should still work on Win98.  I don't think that error message is rendered by BigOven -- it doesn't sound familiar.  (Are you sure it's BigOven, not the installer for BigOven, that's generating that message?  BigOven did successfully install, and this is a message you get when trying to double-click on BigOven?)   

Thinking out loud here... perhaps it's a related component.  Can you email us a screenshot of the specific error message you're receiving?  We'll be happy to do some more digging.  In the meantime, we'll provide a link to a prior download to get you back and running again on that "old" machine.  (The data files are still completely compatible.)  Thanks.

 So, can I go back to my CPM (Z-80) version anytime soon  ?  (grin)

A visit to the computer super store and a wave of my credit card put a spiffy new machine on my desk. Going from a P3-900mhz & Win98SE to a dual core 3Ghz with Vista (64-bit) is a bit of techno-shock but the new version of BigOven runs like a scared rabbit on this beast.

 Wow, welcome to the year 2009!  I can highly recommend Windows 7 as well, when you're ready for even more snappy & stable performance.  Thanks Pete for checking in on this.
