  • Re: Converting mcx and mc2 MasterCook files to mxp/mx2

What if you can't open the files in Mastercook?  That is my problem and the reason I bought Big Oven software, otherwise I would have stayed with Mastercook.  Here's my situation and I will be very upset if I can't get the thousands of recipes out of Mastercook and into Big Oven. I am running Vista on my new ...

Mastercook can work with Vista if you do a few tricks to tell Vista that the data files reside within "Program Files" (directions can be found here >>  http://mc6help.tripod.com/mastercook_and_vista.htmn).  This will let you get to your recipes so you can begin the conversion process to BigOven.  At any ...

Hi Cindi, We can't guarantee anything, but we're willing to give it a shot here.  BigOven can natively import MasterCook .MX2 and .MXP formats, as well as MealMaster .MMF and Cook'n DBF, but no software that we're aware of can read the .mc2 binary files except for MasterCook itself.  Please understand that we're ...

  • Re: Converting mcx and mc2 MasterCook files to mxp/mx2

I just downloaded BigOven and would love to use it with my old recipes.  I too had Mastercook ver 6 software, which will not work with my new computer (Vista) and now cannot get to all my family recipes.  Can anyone import them and then export them in the newer Mastercook software format?

  • Re: Converting from MasterCook Ver. 9

Thank you for the prompt reply.  The files have extensions of .MC2, .MCX, .MCZ...are these what you are talking about?  The biggest files are in the .MCX mode.  As you probably know I am trying to avoid another "learning curve" but if I can move all my recipes to Big Oven (and not have to spend weeks on the ...

  • Re: Import cookbook from MasterCook v 9.

Hi Joe, The only program that we're aware of that can read the native binary .mc or .mc2 formats is MasterCook itself. However, BigOven for Windows can import the following formats: * .MX2 (MasterCook) * .MXP (MasterCook) * .DBF (Cook'n) * .MMF (MealMaster) Try exporting your existing recipes to a single (or multiple) MX2 files from ...

  • Re: Importing Mastercook .MCF files

BigOven can read MX2 and MXP (and MMF and Cook'n) files.  Only MasterCook can read the native binary .MC, .MCF, and .MC2 files (as far as we know).  To import your recipes into BigOven, simply use MasterCook to export your recipes into one or more MX2 files, and then import those into BigOven.  You can export multiple recipes ...

  • Re: Converting from MasterCook Ver. 9

Hi, thanks for taking a look at BigOven. BigOven reads the MX2 and MXP (and MMF) formats natively, but these are only for the text portion of the recipe, not the images. You'll be able to import any sets of recipes that are exported to MX2 format (preferred), but then you'll have to manually go back in and re-import the photos.  ...

  • Re: Importing MasterCook mc2 files

The native MC2 format is proprietary to MasterCook and cannot be read.  However, if you launch MasterCook and load those MC2 files, you can highlight multiple (even all) recipes and export them to MX2 format, then import that file into BigOven.
