well, with some further looking i found part of the problem... when i was asked to input the measures for a can of tomatoes, i created 1 can = 425 grams and saved the measure.  Then when it went back to the ingredient details, in this recipe there are approx 1 can, and below that it says 1 can = 42949673 edible grams!  after some ...

i just reposted this thread in the more appropriate forum, but just to let you know, i have just tried again with a very simple recipe from bigoven.com, and paid careful attention to the links i had to make... and the program still told me that 4 servings of the "pork steak bake" had over 13 million calories!!  seriously.  ...

Something in the nutritional database is seriously messed up! i imported the "Pork Steak Bake" recipe from the website, since it was simple.  i tried the auto link, and it did not work, so i linked each ingredient, paying careful attention to the quantities of each, ie grams in the links i was making.  Still, the program ...

um, shouldn't linking in the database be pretty important, considering how long it would take to try to set this up?  a lot of the links seem to be missing because of "custom measures" such as saying 8 drumsticks, rather than 3 lbs of chicken. also, i'm seeing a VERY large discrepancy between what Big Oven and MasterCook ...
