New Vegan Cooking Group

Normally we don't announce every new cooking group that is created, but in scanning through some user profiles, many of you have expressed an interest in Vegan cooking.

So I've created a "Vegan Cooking Group" on www.bigoven.com in the "Discuss Food" section, and brought in about 1,300 recipes that have been tagged "vegan" into the group.

The full list of 53 cooking groups is below. Visit the "Discuss Food!" link on www.bigoven.com to join in! If you've got a special food, diet, cookbook-author, or other culinary interest, please feel free to create a new cooking group. Happy cooking!

Modifying the description of a Group that I created

I have a typo in the description of the user discussion Group that I created, but there doesn't seem to be any way to alter this. I don't want to re-create the group bec. then I'd loose existing posts.

Is there any way to do this. Its silly that it says "recepes" instead of "recipes" in my description for the Kosher group.

Improvements to the "Discuss Food!" Groups Area

Thanks to many of you who have provided us with some good feedback on the Food Discussion Groups feature (beta) on BigOven.com.

This is just a note to let you know that we've just shipped several ease-of-use improvements to the groups area, including a few important bug fixes relating to how new groups are created.

Groups let you:

Create a food-related discussion group, completely free
Meet others from around the world in food-related chat on specific topic(s) that interest you
Exchange links, tips and recipes
Assign recipes to the group(s) you're a member of, which makes it much easier to zero in on a collection of recipes
Join or leave as many groups as you'd like, whenever you'd like
Optionally receive email messages when someone posts to that group (you can opt out with a single click on the group's main page)

If you haven't discovered Groups, please stop by http://www.bigoven.com/groups.aspx. At this writing, there are 42 different cooking-related discussion groups, covering such topics as Weight Watchers, Grilling, Barbecuing (yes, they're different!), Asian Food, Food Photography, Eating Locally, Baking, and much more.

These groups are just getting off the ground, and we could use your help and expertise. Please help us start great food-related communities with your expertise!

Introducing BigOven Cooking Groups

Create your own cooking clubs online!

Have you ever wanted to group a bunch of like-minded cooking buddies together, group in some recipes, and chat about them with people who have similiar interests?

Are you crazy about Indian Food? Are you trying to cook more organically? Are you a Weight Watcher? Are you on the South Beach Diet? Are you looking for ways to plan Thanksgiving? Looking for input on party food and drinks? Are you looking to improve your food photography skills?

Introducing BigOven Cooking Groups. They're free, and they're meant to help you focus in on the topics you'd like, with like-minded folks. Think of groups the same way you'd think of a cooking club. A BigOven Cooking Group consists of members (anyone can join an unlimited number of groups) and recipes (videos will soon be able to be added to a given group).

You can create a Cooking Group on any topic you'd like, or join existing ones.

At present, all groups are public (we've got private groups in the feature development queue). Anyone can join as many groups as they'd like, and any member of a group can contribute to the discussion topics and to the group's recipe pool. You can find out which groups a given member is part of right on their chef page.

See www.bigoven.com and click on "Groups" in the top-level menu to get started.

To kick things off for our beta test period, I've created a group for Thanksgiving and a group for Grilling. But please add more! Many, many more!

We'd love your feedback on this new feature. We've got many ideas to make it better over time -- such as subscribing to group topics via email -- and would love to hear your suggestions.

[At present, Cooking Groups are available only via the top-level website www.bigoven.com, but we'll be adding appropriate links for those using the recipe software as well.]
